San Jose council snuffs out smoking at city parks
Source: San Jose Mercury News

Lighting up a cigarette in the middle of a San Jose park will soon be illegal.

In a lopsided 10-1 vote, the San Jose City Council on Tuesday approved a ban on smoking in its 160 parks. The new law, which also applies to people smoking inside their cars or walking on the sidewalk at city parks, goes into effect in about a month.

"I think we ought to eliminate cigarettes all together," said councilman Forrest Williams. "Let's just get rid of them."

Councilman Pete Constant was the lone dissenter on Tuesday, suggesting that the fumes from a barbecue pit in a park are just as damaging as second-hand cigarette smoke.

"I don't smoke," said Constant, a retired police officer. "But I think this ordinance is a bad idea. It is really hard for me to see how someone sitting on a bench at Cesar Chavez Park, staying to themselves, is harming anyone."

4. Good.
Cigarette smoking is s filthy, disgusting addiction.

It should not be done in public.

Good for the San Jose City Council.

11. What Happens To The Snuff?
Don't people who sniff snuff sneeze?

What happens to the sniff snuff when the person sneezes?

If it goes into the atmosphere, then I say "No" to sniffed snuff.

Even the apricot stuff from Germany.

Had dinner at Original Joe's and pints afterwards at Trials Pub.

I didn't go to any of their 160 parks, and sure wouldn't want to start if this law went into effect.

PS: Forrest Williams seems to be a dick. that Constant guy's got it right.
