Just heard on CNN shortage of firefighters in wildfire area

I was just watching CNN and a firefighter was being interviewed...he said something to the effect that they normally have about 1200 firefighters in his unit (or whatever it is called) but that they are operating with about 500 currently, so they have to do everything with precision due to the manpower shortage.

Has anyone heard what the reason is for the shortage of firefighters?

Is this because there are so many fires burning currently and manpower has been scattered to other counties? OR is this another case of bushit has the bulk of our needed emergency people and equipment in Iraq?

Did anyone else see the interview? It was about a half hour ago.

Some of them could be deployed to Iraq, or even on the US-Mexico border!

But they certainly haven't given any numbers which makes me wonder why that is.

I don't know...but this mess is sounding more and more katrina like by the second.
