Ever hear of National Youth Leadership Council?
Edited on Mon Oct-22-07 08:32 PM by REDSTATELIBERAL
A young person I know was chosen by their high school to attend a conference in D.C. I read all through it's website. http://www.cylc.org/NYLC/index.cfm . It says it is non-partisan. But, I just remember watching a Youth Conference on C-Span one day and it seemed to have a right bent to it. It sounds like a great opportunity but not if it is gop indoctrination.
Any insight will be appreciated.

1. I attended NYLC when I was in high school
(which wasn't all that long ago), and it seemed bi-partisan to me. We attended a lot of panel discussions and both sides of the issues were always represented. Overall, it seemed fine to me.

2. I understand your skepticism
When the first thing you see is a picture of the White House plastered across the top banner, these days invokes thoughts of right wing corruption and indoctrination.

I'm just wondering what is the idea behind teaching leadership. Maybe leadership is instinctive to me and I feel it does not need to be taught, and that I realize I need to work on my actions, not on my ability to lead.

But what is the point of teaching people to lead without teaching the value of having skills? I'm just nit picking. The program probably is great.

4. Sad isn't it what the iconic stature of the White House has become.
The next President must bring a sense of hope and renewed faith in the POTUS.

I fear the Presidency has been so stained that it may take several Dem Presidents to undo the damage.

5. My older 2 have received literature to apply to attend.
We looked around after we read the list of sponsors did tilt rightward, and they decided they weren't interested. I can't be of very much help as they decided they were not interested rather early.

Hopefully the young person that you know will find it non-partisan and will have a great experience.
