We've only had sprinkles, but there's a greater chance of rain tomorrow and tomorrow night. We're currently 17+ inches below normal for the year. :(

At least our homes aren't in danger (unless forest fires start). Good luck to those who live in SoCal!

35. Knoxville is strange:)
In more ways than one:) Being in the valley tends to push stormy weather out.

Hope we get some. The ground is broken and cracked.

Not to mention i am still wearing t-shirts towards the end of October?!

21. Must be up near the TRI
We're bone dry up in this corner - pretty much everything outdoors is dead, ground compacted and cracking. Keeping our garden alive was a real chore this year with the weather. I'm still getting fresh tomatoes and watermelon out of the garden this late in the season.

Hopefully this rain sets in for a couple days. We need to replenish our water tables badly. My father in law tried to use a backhoe to pull a dead tree out of the ground and it wouldn't budge it was so dry. They finally pulled it out and he said that the ground was completely dry all the way down to about 20 feet, probably lower.

Glad to see another neighbor on here!

If you can, keep me posted of progressive events in the area. They may not get much play on the airwaves, but there are plenty out there!

8. It's been raining here in NE GA since last night.
We are desperate for rain. My county and the 3 others around me which share the Bear Creek reservoir are on a total outdoor watering ban. We are scheduled to RUN OUT of water by December.
:scared: The citizens, the governments, business and industry are doing their part to conserve water (about a 20% savings so far) but we've already had some business casualties due to the drought. :(

Even the University of Georgia Athletic Dept. is not irrigating the field in Sanford Stadium. This rain should green up the bermuda turf in time for homecoming on Nov. 3. (We had no home games in October so the field isn't torn up.)

We got about 0.77 inch a week or so ago but it barely made a dent in reservoir or river levels.

What we need is a hurricane to come inland and dump massive rains on us here in the Southeast.

Pray for rain. Do a rain dance. Conserve water.

28. Thank you! Is it raining down there in Jamaica?
I know y'all don't want a hurricane down there on the islands but we sure need one to come inland and dump a ton of water on us.

31. We had six non-stop days a fortnight ago
complete with seven deaths, flooding, road and bridge destruction. We already lost most of our crops from hurricane Dean and most of the island's nurseries were flooded out.

It has rained almost every day since on and off so the usual problem areas are flooding because the ground is saturated. You don't want to see the new potholes but I did see some road work people working today..before it started raining again this afternoon. It's a beautiful evening now but more rain's coming tomorrow.

33. Yikes! I hope yall can recover from the crop loss.
Edited on Mon Oct-22-07 06:51 PM by CottonBear
Can you grow most crops year round there in normal weather?

The infrastucture damage to bridges and storm drain systems can be devastating.

Take care and send that rain up to Georgia and the Southeast!

I would love to visit Jamaica someday. What is the best time to visit or is anytime good?

I almost moved to Grenada a nember of years ago with a boyfriend. The hurricane really wiped them out. I would have most likely lost my house if I'd been living there.

36. All year
Thankfully we planted some beans, peas and tomatoes after the hurricane and our nursery survived on the patio. I don't want to think about the price of vegetables this Christmas. I like Jamaica best in April/May and hotel rates drop big time on May 15th. Grenada has recovered. They won't allow their collective memory of hurricanes to fail them next time. Ivan was their first direct hit since Janet in the 1950s.

16. It a running joke today because of comments
about how California deserves the wildfires, especially in San Diego where there a large number of Republicans -- as though the fires hopscotch, and burn the homes of freepers. :eyes:

I was there when the tropical storm blew by and it missed them and hit Hatteras and the outerbanks instead.

I hope this rain goes your way! :hi: from a native Tarheel!

40. Thank you malaise

Raining off and on here on the South Cumberland Plateau. And we are also on a burn ban, water restrictions, etc, here.

Last week 140 acres burned nearby, but that is nothing compared to what's going on in CA, i realize. Still, the threat of wildfire has been significant and living in the woods that has been a big worry.

My hope is that i will finally have running water agasin after this rain. Fortunately my cousin bought a place a mile from here on the water line so I can haul water for horses and chickens, but I'd love to see my well working again!

Good weather mojo to all :hi:

41. So far we're just seeing the clouds - no rain
Not a good way to get started with this system, the patterns are trending west of us here in parched East Tennessee. We've got a few sprinkles, enough to make the roadway damp, but not put a dent in our shortages or dry soil.

We've got a couple more days of potential rain, so here's to hoping.
