The RUN-GORE-RUN threads are all being directed to the wrong audience!
Edited on Thu Oct-18-07 10:46 PM by RiverStone
We got the message and embraced it a long time ago on DU.

Poll after non-scientific poll in this wonderful place has shown us unequivocally that a HUGE majority of DUers would want Al to run and would vote for him.

If Al's entry is a distant but very compelling long shot away, then we should be targeting those folks who need to be swayed the most. Those folks are not on DU! All these RUN AL, GORE's The Favorite, GORE MUST BE PRESIDENT threads seem to be wasting precious energy to an audience that needs not an ounce of convincing. We know already!

If by any chance Al is paying attention to the will of the voting populace, and if he is open to pondering the possibility, then we need to somehow get the word to all the fence sitting, corporate media guzzling, Dems out there who are NOT paying attention. And fast! They probably don't frequent DU and may not even travel in the blogosphere at all.

We need to be sending all these compelling reasons why Al should run OUT THERE to John Q. Public. Any suggestions as to where?

Running or not, Al will have a major effect on the primaries depending on if he makes an endorsement (my guess - Edwards); and how the Gore factor will play out in determining our platform at the Convention in August.

peace~:)

On Edit: If anybody asks why Al, send them to http://www.draftgore.com/ ---- but you knew that already too!

1. Ummmm. Then why post anything about any of the
candidates? Isn't this a political forum? Have you not posted things about Kucinich hoping to win some over here?

Just saying.

And the Draft Gore groups are reaching out to John and Jane Q Publics. They are walking the streets with their petitions and gathering funds to run ads. I think people here and elsewhere are just simply excited about the possibility of Gore running. They like him. He gives them hope.

Peace.

2. The situation with Al is different
Gawd yes this is a political forum and YES I have frequently stated (shouted even) the rational for voting for one the few Dems with the guts to put impeachment on the table DK!!!); but rosesaylavee, the candidates you mentioned have ALL declared.

Al gives us hope.

Al has always given us hope!

But if my read is correct, even the most determined Gore optimists are saying that he MUST decide by the second week in November (simply based on big state filing deadlines).

As much as I admire Dennis, he has already declared and has not enough name recognition to have a realistic chance (at least this go around). Al does and Al could restore our country's credibility on a world scale (shit, ya know that too!).

All am trying to say is GORE supporters have precious little time to make something remarkable occur - we should be collaborating on ways to send the message to the folks who could sway Al. I think those are folks on the right. He knows the left and middle want him, but its the folks that he would be surprised to hear from --- they are who we need to reach.

I'm talking strategies here - call it conservation of energy.

Al will always give me hope, whatever he is doing.

3. 50,000,000,000,000,000 voices won't convince Al to run if Al doesn't want to run.

5. That was basically my point. Al has to want to run rather than Al needs to be convinced.

6. agreed
And my point is he already knows millions on the left want him to run, all of DU knows we want him to run --- if there is any chance Al will run, I think he needs to feel that support will come from all quarters. DU won't make a new dent, but get thousands of rethugs and redstaters to tell him they want him to run...now that might sway him (or not make a damn bit of difference).

I just know we on the left already tried to convince him, and he prefers his day job where he is winning things like the NPP!!!

8. I think every Gore supporter would agree with that statement
but I think your basic assumption that Gore supporters are only posting here and doing nothing else is not correct. Many of the national draft gore organizers post here and on dkos... I come here for information, ideas, and general companionship with like-minded people.

7. The N.Y. Times ad and the Nobel were huge......
They opened lots and lots of peoples' eyes to the possibility of a Gore candidacy. Those of us working in California to collect signatures to place his name on the primary ballot find ourselves constantly educating people as to this possibility. To those who tell me emphatically "He isn't running," I ask, "Did you hear that directly from the Vice President or a pundit on T.V.?" Some people thankfully ask, "Is Al Gore running?" To which I answer, "Let's convince him to." Then they usually sign up. We're all working feverishly, espeically playing up the Nobel.
