Let's Be Honest! S-CHIP Failed Because of One Reason --- Insurance Companies!
Insurance companies are very aware that when middle class earners have the opportunity to sign their kids up for S-CHIP more adults are less likely to engage in more costly insurance coverage individually.

Insurance companies gave millions to the Repub Party for just this kind of issue --to protect their turf.

That is it in a nutshell.

1. what? insurance companies have no major problems with CHIP
since it is the government paying the bills for private insurance. it brings more people into the insurance pool, not fewer.

2. BULLSHIT, they do not vote....
They buy those who do the voting, bit they do not vote! Those who are 'bought' bear full responsibility, period! end of story. Democrat or Repugnant, if bought, then THEY are responsible, they made the choice.

The Association of Health Insurance Plans specifically applauded the enactment of SCHIP:

6. I know exactly what I am talking about and your link does not prove anything
Insurance companies are always looking for people who have no health insurance because they are 'value added' insureds(they wouldn't be insured anyway), but if people who are presently insured or able to pay the premiums for private insurance they are dead set against the Government intervening.

The position of insurance companies is always, always what is the bottom line?

They were not in favor of making S-CHIP available to higher income families. THat is a fact, no matter what they might have said publicly. And that fact is proven by the Repub votes they bought in Congress with their contributions.

7. The average American has no idea how much sway the Insurers have.
My family used to run one of the largest Engineering and Construction cos in the World.

They would go to the insurers before they completed the site survey to get an OK.

And those same companies own Congress.

No one gets elected on the national level without their blessings.
