Barack Obama on the Tom Joyner Morning Show today
Today Obama called in to Tom Joyner's morning show. As usual, Tom did Obama's bidding, with his every-black-person-get-behind-the-black-man routine.

Tom said that if every Black person supporting Sen. Clinton would instead support Obama, then Sen. Clinton's lead would be erased. Obama agreed, saying then her lead would virtually be gone.

Obama the said "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity." For me, that was when his arrogance really showed. How dare he suugest we may never get another chance to vote for a Black man for President. That forever and always, he will be the only viable Black man running for POTUS, so let's take this opportunity because it won't happen again.

Even more disturbing, there was not a single policy discusssion. When Tom has Sen. Clinton on his show last month, he grilled her about her health care plan, asking why wouldn't it be free. She answered and gave specifics.

He didn't ask a single policy question of Obama today. It was all ra-ra, we as Black Americans should get behind the Black man....and Obama played along.

Note to Tom Joyner and Barack Obama: I don't enjoy being told to engage in group think. As both of you know, we in the A-A community are not monolithic. And if someone said they were voting for John Edwards b/c he's White, we'd be outraged, and rightly so.

And contrary to your belief Obama, this is not a once-in-a-lifetime chance. More than likely, there will be other African-Americans running for President. You are not the last, best hope of the A-A community.

1. The silence from DU on this thread is very telling...If the tables had been turned and
Tom Joyner and Hillary Clinton suggested that all white women supporting Obama should switch their choice to Clinton, DU would be having a fit.

3. She suggests ALL women should support her
She does it all the time. Why don't you notice? Why can Richardson talk about the Latino vote, but black people can NEVER talk about the African American vote?

4. No, she does not. She's never suggested all American women engage in group think and support her.

6. Denial. Double Standard.
She does it every day. I do not know why you can't hear that, but you can hear racism with Obama. I can't fix your brain. Bye.

7. Unless you can cite a specific line or passage from one of her interviews or speeches, in which she
suggested that every woman in America should vote for her, and that we might never see this opportunity to vote for a woman again for President....then I don't think you have any ground to stand on.

Of course she talks about her being a woman running for President, and how great it would be to see a woman elected president. I don't deny that, and I have no problem with it. Same way I would have no problem with Obama simply stating how great it would be to break down that barrier and have an African-American as President.

But I do have a problem when Tom Joyner suggest that every Black person supporting Sen. Clinton, should switch their allegience to Obama. And I have a problem with Obama saying Clinton's lead would be virtually non-existant if that happened, and that is is a "once in a lifetime" opportunity (as if to suggest he's the last, best hope of my community, and that we'll never get the chance to vote for a Black person as President again).

2. Hillary does the same to women
Rah rah, women have waited their whole lives to put a woman in the White House. She does it all the time. Why doesn't that bother you? Why does white America not even notice when she does it, but immediately calls Obama out for racism if he dares mention African American support.

5. I have no problem with talking about breaking down barriers....The fact is that
if Sen. Clinton or Sen. Obama are elected, they will have broken down another barrier. And that's great.

My view is this, however: not all history is worth making. And Sen. Clinton has never suggested that all women engage in group think and support her candidacy. She's never said any woman supporting one of the other candidates, should switch their allegiance to her, or suggested this opportunity is only coming this one time.

That is the problem I have with Tom Joyner.
