Americans oppose full funding for Iraq war: poll
1 day ago

WASHINGTON (AFP) — A majority of Americans do not want to give President George W. Bush the 190-billion-dollar he has requested for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll out Tuesday.

While 27 percent said they would give a green light to the funding, a hefty 43 percent of those surveyed said they wanted the budget for those conflicts reduced sharply; and another 23 percent said they wanted the funding lowered somewhat. Three percent said no funding should be approved and three percent had no opinion, the poll found.

The survey also shed light on US voters' discontent with Bush and Congress.

"Bush's approval rating stands at 33 percent, equal to his career low in Post-ABC polls.

"And just 29 percent approve of the job Congress is doing, its lowest approval rating in this poll since November 1995, when Republicans controlled both the House and Senate. It also represents a 14-point drop since Democrats took control in January," the Post added.

1. At 29 percent, you'd think Pelosi and Reid would listen...
to what we are telling them. But instead we get Pelosi on the Ed Schultz show saying impeachment is off the table, war spending will continue unchanged, their version of domestic spying isn't bad enough to raise a stink about, and S-Chip is just a lost cause.

We are worse off now than when the Repugs controlled congress, because now we only have those on OUR SIDE to hold accountable.

2. So you agree with Scarborough then?

A Republican catapulting Republican propaganda?

Why doesn't Scarborough ever mention that if ten Republican Senators were to stand with the Dems on ending this the brutal occupation of Iraq it would be over?

Or why doesn't Scarborough ever mention that Bush could end it today if he wanted to?

Why doesn't Scarborough ever mention any of that?

Have you ever wondered that?

Why is it always the Dems fault with Scarborough? Could it be what he says is all a bunch of crap to make Dems look bad for the war the Republicans started and lost?

3. Scarborough who?
I've never listened to Scarborough, nor do I plan to start. Our Dem leaders have a duty and responsibility to do what they were put into office to do, reverse course regarding the war. This is most definitely within their ability even without a veto proof majority, but they have chosen not to use their power to its fullest and have chosen to capitulate to the Repug opposition, sometimes before they even get a chance to make a demand.

4. I think the Republicans are doing this
to minimize the difference between the parties. Implying the Democrats only SAY theu want to end the "war". They are attempting to discredit the leaders, who have said that they don't have enough votes to force change. This is a strawman - just as cut and run was. He is saying the Democrats need to move to the position that 3% of the populations want. Their position was not cut and run then, nor is it stay the course now.
