I'm watching the Pub debate on CNBC now. FRED is a lousy speaker!
They asked him the first question about the economy and he stuttered, and stammered, and couldn't remember the word "downturn"!

1. How do you watch that shit?
I mean, thank you for doing so and letting us know how it's going, but how do you work up what's required to sit through it?

4. So do I, but I tend to read transcripts.
It's faster, it's less painful. I couldn't watch a Pug debate without being paid thousands. Mere hundreds isn't enough.

15. That's what I do with Bush. Watching him speak makes me want
to inflict harm on my tv, so I look for the transcript online when he's through.

21. Ditto.
I am simply not capable of watching him speak. I watched Kerry rip him in two debates, and as enjoyable as that was I couldn't bring myself to watch the third.

9. Ron Paul did make some sense on his statements
He says that Wall St financiers, Washington DC politicians and lobbyists, and the mil-industrial complex aren't in a recession, but the poor and the middle class are suffering as our dollar is being crushed by our ridiculous foreign imperialism and monetary policies.

27. It makes sense, but what he doesn't tell you is chilling
What Ron Paul leaves out is his solution to these issues and that's basically doing away with all social programs and a downsizing of government below the threshold where we would still have services coming from our government. He doesn't tell you how the country will fare after he axes the taxes and programs start to dry up, but it does make sense to voters who are tired of seeing their money pissed away while the fat-cats get fatter.

14. Nixon had his faults, but he was a smart man
I assume his assessment of Fred is correct. Friendly, but dumb as a box of rocks.

Did Fred think he could just walk in and take this thing without boning up on the issues?

18. They don't want
the majority of people to hear their stupid talking points. As an example, Brownback just claimed that he doesn't believe that we went into Iraq because of oil, we went to fight terrorism.

20. MSNBC is rerunning it at 9pm EST tonight. I admit it is odd though to
actually hold it at 4PM EST. I'd understand if it was Sunday, but on Tuesday????

Oops,, wait! There ARE quite a few pretty OLD guys on that panel, Maybe they all go to be early???

23. Low-Key Thompson Stirs Few Sparks
“Can I have a round of applause?” Mr. Thompson said, drawing a rustle of clapping and some laughter.

“Well, I had to drag that out of you,” he said.

But as Mr. Thompson campaigned across Iowa this week, he was something other than the dynamic presence that some in his party have been yearning for. Iowans saw a candidate who is subdued and sonorous, a laconic presence who spoke in soft monotone, threw few elbows and displayed little drive to distinguish himself from his opponents.

24. That pinhead burped up a jaw-dropper
right out of the gate. Asked about why most people believe we're in the midst of a recession, he says we're not, the economy is rip-roaring along and inflation is low. Asked again why most people feel otherwise, he says in a "vibrant dynamic economy" there will always be pockets that experience difficulty and "we" haven't done enough to get those who aren't doing well to hear the "Greatest Story Never Told" -- big ass tax cuts caused the long run of sustained growth we're currently enjoying and well all need to be aware of that.

Got it? If inflation and a shrinking paycheck is blowing your meagre budget, you've got no business kvetching before you've heard THE STORY. If your prospects don't immediately improve, then... well, I don't know what. The wrinkly-toe looking motherfucker didn't say.

26. Lazy Fred Thompson on SNL (Video)
Darrell Hammond gives us the famously lazy Freddie Thompson on Saturday Night Live. The uninformed and uninspiring Freddie Thompson explains that he kinda wants to be your president, but it's hard work. Meanwhile Freddie is preparing for his first debate -- tomorrow night. We hear that expectations are so low that Freddie may win if he just shows up and refrains from drooling.
