US (anti-terror) strategy branded a disaster - Oxford Research Group report
LONDON: The US-led war on terrorism had been a disaster and Washington and its allies must change their policy in Iraq and Afghanistan to defeat al-Qaeda, an independent organization of experts said yesterday.

The Oxford Research Group said in a report that Western strategy since the September 11, 2001, attacks had failed to extinguish the threat from Islamic extremism and had even fuelled it.

"Every aspect of the war on terror has been counterproductive in Iraq and Afghanistan, from the loss of civilian life through mass detentions without trial. In short, it has been a disaster," the report's author, Paul Rogers, said. "Western countries simply have to face up to the dangerous mistakes of the past six years and recognize the need for new policies."

Professor Rogers, professor of peace studies at the University of Bradford, also warned any military action against Iran over the Islamic republic's nuclear program would further aggravate the situation.

I wonder how long before the Oxford Research Group is declared a terrorist organization by the US?

1. The Sydney Morning Herald made the mistake of thinking Bush told the truth about the GWOT
The Global War on Terror (GWOT) is not about defeating al-Qaeda, extinguishing Islamic extremism, or preventing the loss of life.

The GWOT is about money, making more money for American defense contractors, and strengthening big business control over world energy production.

The Australians have not learned the lesson of "Don't listen to what Bush says, watch what Bush does".
