1. Who is this poor 13 year old? And why does she attract preachers?
I think this is a scientific phenomenon worth discovering. Why are so many preachers attracted to this particular barely-teen? Is there something about the number 13? I think there should be controlled experiments, putting this girl in a glassed-off room and seeing how desperate preachers are to get to her.

On a more serious level, I wonder...is it that there are clergymen suddenly turning to "San Quentin quail", or has this always been going on and we're just getting more news coverage on it?

6. 13 seems to be the most popular age for chickenhawks.
You know, not quite little kids, not quite teenagers, certainly not adults. It's also the age when most kids start to try to shed Mom and Dad and go out and explore the world for themselves, giving these creeps more opportunity. I know 13 was the age when I got the most car horns and wolf whistles, and that was about my gawkiest, least attractive age. Three years later when the braces came off and the baby fat was gone, the attention pretty much stopped.

The age is as dangerous for boys as it is for girls, making it the one time when risk is even for both sexes, even though the consequences are still potentially worse for girls.

I know if I had a kid going through puberty, I'd be very, very careful not to leave him/her alone with a lot of "nice guys" who are preachers, sports coaches, or other professions around kids. Most of them are nice guys, but you just never know.

10. I'm sure most parents and teachers of kids that age
would agree with you. I know my mother threatened to nail me into a barrel and feed me through the bung until I turned 21.

Why they're so attractive to chickenhawks is beyond me.

14. That's odd....
I was reading your post about the whistles and honks and thinking "That's sick... why would they do that to a little girl?'. That's when you were at your worst?!

Damn, girl, when the braces and baby fat came off you should have had to beat them away from you with a stick! I gotta admit, my fantasy department - long closed on account of age - showed signs of life!

Must be some weird part of the country. I grew up in Detroit, among a lot of Italians (you know how they are), and they seemed to like the older, more experienced girls, not 13 year olds.

4. what is it about religious preachers and sex?
Is there some psychological relationship between hypocritically religious people and sex that I don't know about? (serious question)

I know that many of you are religious, and am not trying to imply that you are inordinately attracted to sex-capades, but what's up with the hypocracy of others in this field?

5. I wonder if it's selective reporting.
It may be that the story is much more scandalous (at least to some people) when it's a preacher and therefore hits the national news. When it's the plumber down the street it doesn't get further than the local paper.

It may also be a matter of access and trust. People in positions like preachers, teachers, etc. have more opportunity.

7. I think it depends on the church
The more warped their view on sex is, the more repressed they become, and they have to find an outlet somehow. Catholics talk about birth control being against human nature yet their church leaders are expected to go against that very same human nature for their entire lives, and you have the pedophile abuses. Purchases of X-rated movies go up in hotels when they host Baptist conventions. Ted Haggard fights his entire life against his nature, and he seeks out male prostitutes, etc.

11. Interesting.....so, religion promotes repression of sexual expression,
therefore ending up with an increased sexual "acting out?" Wonder where one could read about this phenomenon? Thanks!

12. Well, it's not even a theory - barely a hypothesis
But it seems to me the more repressed you are about sex, the more troubles you're going to have.

What's interesting to me is that just about every Catholic I know seems to be pretty happy about his or her sex life mainly because they ignore the church when it comes to birth control. They love the Pope, but when it comes to sex, he's almost seen as a silly old man. When the last time you've heard of a member of the Catholic laity going sexually nutso?

13. I live in a Catholic area and have noticed
that as well. They are also very divided on the death-penalty issue, and the subservience of women.

Also in my area, there are an inordinate number of priests who get discovered in compromising situations with their alter boys. I have quite a few Catholic friends (women) who idolized their local priest until he was discovered to have molested half the boys in the congregation. Most of these women ended up agonizingly leaving the Catholic Church altogether. I think there is something about the priesthood and the "preacherhood" which attracts sexual deviants. And, your point about repression causing "trouble" is probably the main point. I'm going to google around, because now I am totally interested in the psychology of it all. (I need to get a life.)

I taught for many many years, and only knew of a few instances of teacher-student sex-capades, whereas the instances of religious leaders molesting youths seem to be rampant.

8. Idiot pedo
According to the story:

"They say he had booked a hotel room nearby, where officers found condoms, a digital camera, and baby oil."

FYI sexually active people: Baby oil degrades condoms.

I hope Mr. Preacherman has fun in jail. No baby oil. No condoms. No peace.

15. Ain't you got no romance...
in your soul? The preacher could find true love there in the slammer.

He might find a gentle "daddy" who actually might use lube of some kind.

Bent over in the shower by the man (or men) you love... now that's magic!

18. Even for a pedophile, wishing rape on someone is not justice and not funny
It's barely ironic. Rape is a horrible crime (as is pedophilia, which is obviously also rape). But the tired joke that "now he's gonna be sodomized--ha-ha" is pretty sick and pretty unliberal.

16. Another religious leader just got nabbed in Michigan this week, too:
A West Michigan pastor is free on bond after police say they caught him trading child pornography.

Homeland Security and Customs officers arrested Randy Doyle last Thursday. Agents say Doyle admitted using a church computer to save and swap photos of young girls having sex with adults.
