Post staff writer

During the taping of the episode, the cast was seen wearing "Gore '08" t-shirts.

NBC officials declined to comment.

40. Hint? The man would have to be living in a cave to miss it!
There are so many groups working on this, states drafting petitions to get him on the ballot, every where he goes, it's the first question he gets- I think he's just waiting to make sure that if he jumps in, there is absolutely no question he would beat Hillary. Otherwise, why bother going through it all again? He's doing great anyway. Looks like a Nobel prize is next for him. I'm hoping too but I can understand why he's waiting this out for a while.

28. 30 Rock won the Emmy for best comedy.
From Wiki:

30 Rock is an Emmy Award-winning American sitcom that debuted on NBC on October 11, 2006. The show was created by former Saturday Night Live (SNL) performer and head writer Tina Fey, who stars in the show and has written numerous episodes, including the pilot. Fey is also one of the show's executive producers.

The show's title comes from a nickname for 30 Rockefeller Plaza, also known as the GE Building, which is the headquarters of NBC's New York City studios, including SNL's Studio 8H. As the title suggests, the show is a workplace comedy set in this building. Specifically, it follows the cast and crew of a fictional SNL-esque sketch comedy show that was originally called The Girlie Show, but was renamed TGS with Tracy Jordan in "The Aftermath".

_____________________________

It often has political or topical humor. Once, the executive played by Alec Baldwin was dating "a prominent African-American member of the Bush Administration", but her work got in the way of them being together.

Another performer once said she hated the troops (because they're so gay and they're always showing off), but she meant troupes (theatre troupes). Trying to spin it later, she claimed Obama needed to be caught and she was supporting Osama in 08.

It's funny.

29. its pretty funny
it stars alec baldwin, and SNL alums tina fey, and tracy morgan with other less famous comedians. It is basically about the behind the scenes of a SNL type comedy show.

Tina Fey is incredibly liberal and lets her opinions fly on the show. One instance comes to mind was when she turned to the camera, looking it dead on and said "just because i think gay dudes should be able to adopt and everyone should drive a hybrid doesn't mean i hate america" when her patriotism was questioned. It was a pretty funny episode.

60. Thanks for the link I've been mildly curious about this show
but never seen it. Their buffering sucks but the show looks fun. Alec is one of my fav's. A suggestion about the very annoying, halting, buffering...turn the volume down to 0 and minimize it go back to whatever, then go back to it a bit later and start from the beginning after all the buffering.
and yes I have broadband and 4 gigs so that can't be the prob.

15. Serious question which I'm sure has been asked and answered before --
What if he really doesn't WANT to be President? What if he's happier and more fulfilled pursuing his interests as he is now?

I just wonder about that when I see the draft Gore threads.

Thanks for any enlightenment.

17. They don't care what he wants
That was already an answer here. And if I am correct I think there is some law stating that he cannot appear on any show that is not a news show if he a candidate, because equal time would need to be given to the rest of the "candidates." I do not believe he is then running if that is the case, and I don't know how he may have felt in seeing those shirts as opposed to say an environmental T-shirt showing him they suopport his efforts. I guess it is true that people on the whole are just motivated by soundbites. His appearance on the show BTW, is actually scheduled for November 1 as part of a "green" week on NBC, so if that rule about candidates and appearances still applies, I think it is safe to bet he isn't running this time out and why should he? Not only is he more fulfilled, what he is doing is very important regardless of what some may really think.

35. Here's what broadcasting lawyers say
Equal time" or "equal opportunities" require that broadcast stations give treat candidates for the same political race in an even-handed fashion. If they sell time to one candidate, they have to give the other candidate equal opportunities to buy the same amount of time in programs reaching roughly the same size audience. If time is provided to a candidate without charge, and the candidate's on-air appearance is outside of a news or news interview programs and is not part of on-the-spot coverage of a news event, then the broadcaster must make equal time available to the opposing candidate, if that candidate requests it within 7 days of the use by the first candidate.

However, none of these obligations arise until a candidate is legally qualified - essentially when he or she has filed the necessary papers to obtain a place on the ballot in accordance with the governing law of the jurisdiction in which the election will be held. In Thompson's case, as he has not even officially announced that he is running, he is not yet a legally qualified candidate, so for the time being, there is no issue with the continued airing of the programs in which he appears.

In Presidential races, once a candidate becomes legally qualified in 10 states, he or she is legally qualified in every state. In the primary, that presents some issues - as many of the "primary" states don't have primaries but instead have caucuses. For FCC political rules purposes, lowest unit charges do apply to a caucus - but the FCC has not defined when a candidate for president becomes legally qualified in a caucus state which does not have any required registration process. For non-Presidential races, there is a presumption that one is not legally qualified more than 90 days before a primary - but that specific ruling does not apply in the Presidential race. So when a Presidential candidate is legally qualified in 10 states may be difficult to determine. it may be, with so many state moving their primaries to early February (see our comment on this move), the issue may be settled quickly as candidates become qualified in primary states with formal filing deadlines.

Which brings me to believe he will not be doing so at all. Perhaps this is his way of telling people who do nothing but nag at him about it that he isn't interested this time out. I personally think he is too nice.

23. He has never said he will not run...
Others have said it, but he avoids it... he avoids it very artfully I might add.

When he says, "I am NOT going to run for president in the '08 election" or when the primaries start without him, that's when I'll give up hoping he does run. Not before.

37. Wouldn't Al be more likely to appear with the cast wearing '08 shirts if he decided he will not run?
I am still hoping he will step in, but it seems to me that which his sense of humor (sweet, slightly snarky) - he is more likely to appear on "30 Rock" with the cast in "Gore '08" t-shirts if he had decided that he, for sure, would not run.

Again, I hope he runs - I am just now getting my hopes up about this particular tidbit of information. At this point, I think that something would have to happen to Hillary's candidacy to pull Al into the race. Sigh.

The reasons I am pretty sure Gore will run are: He has yet to make the Shermanesque statement; Recently, he's opened the door a little wider with the statement, "I have not ruled outrunning (for '08), in his documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth" he said the the world has a short window of 10 years to reverse climate change and only as POTUS and world leader can he affect this reversal in this short space time. Winning the Nobel Prize will be BIG, giving him the extra edge also to make him a viable world leader in his impassioned endeavor.

48. Do You Really Want To Have Al Gore's back?
Then if you have a You Tube account, please go watch this and see for yourself what crap it is and rate it down and also leave a comment if you wish. Hell, yes, leave a comment to balance out the BS being posted there more than likely by members of the site who made this garbage. If you support Al Gore but more importantly love this planet, this is one time you can show it. He is right about the facts surrounding climate change as are the thousands of PEER REVIEWED scientists corroborating everything he is saying about it. It is time to stand up to these liars. They know he has begun the three year blitz through The Alliance for Climate Protection to refute their garbage and also that the Nobel Peace Prize is to be awarded next week. The timing of this video couldn't then be more obvious. I have left a few comments there and will continue to do so. It's time to go to the barricades for a man who has done nothing but that for us and a planet these greedy bastards care nothing about.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=XDI2NVTYRXU

Or is he only worthy of support and his work your defense if he "runs" to make this "election" more "exciting" for you? Amazing how this cut and paste about wearing some soundbitte shirts makes it to the front page, but articles that discuss his work in depth or something like the above, or his movie being attackd in British schools that calls upon people who claim to have his back to speak out for him and this planet fall into the abyss. It's very telling indeed.

but this is just a lame publicity stunt by the show's producers. You would think winning the award for best comedy (fixed) would be enough...

56. Actually it isn't the producers, it is NBC
NBC is apparently having a Green week to help promote environmental awareness. Here's a snippet from mediabistro back in July.

"Green Week" On NBC Nets In November
NBC Universal is commiting to a "unprecedented, companywide weeklong programming effort" to educate consumers about "ecological issues and our impact on the environment."

61. Thanks for the info.
so it's NBC who's taking advantage of the Green fad for publicity. My worry is that when the fad is over no one will care anymore. There was a Green fad in 1989-1990 and that petered out eventually.

62. And that is the reason that many of us want Gore in the White House
Like you, I have worried about the longevity of the being green movement. However, I think it is different this time in large part because of AIT and Gore's work. Gore has been able to get people talking about the science and, unlike the 1989-1990 era, I think more people understand that being green is necessity. Every week John Q. Public is hearing about how the ice caps are melting quicker than anticipated. Of course some of them are hearing about it through the filter of corporate stoolies via Limpballs and his ilk. But I think common sense is going to win out this time and that this greening is more than a fad.

I think the best way for the greening of America is for Gore to throw his hat into the ring. He has a lot more cross-over appeal for Republicans and Independents than he did in 2000. He would also have a larger voice in global climate change talks. Gore has always been a wonk and he's been more right than any other politician in the past twenty years (at least that's what Amb. Joe Wilson told me). Gore is wonking and, he doesn't just read materials, he seems to absorb them. He's been concentrating on the environment and I truly believe that he is the best person that we could get into office. He's well-studied and knows the direction that the world needs to go. And the best way for him to lead that charge would be from the Office of the President.
