Gang member's funeral stops school; Safety concerns for children are cited

MUNSTER, Ind. --A Catholic grade school canceled today's classes, saying the funeral of a reputed Chicago gang member at a funeral home next door threatened security and safety.

A letter sent Thursday to parents of St. Thomas More students announced the closure, citing "threats of violence" related to the funeral of 28-year-old Rosalio Rincon.
-------------
Rincon, a Chicago resident wanted on federal and county cocaine-dealing charges, was shot and killed last Monday by a Hobart police officer as he drove his Hummer toward a Drug Enforcement Administration agent who was trying to arrest him.
------------
Rincon's attorney, John Cantrell, said details of the services were meant to be private.

"The family wanted the funeral in a place that couldn't cause a potential problem, so they chose this location for safety reasons," he said. "... Now the school's and the church's actions have made it public."
--------------
Public school district officials alerted parents by phone about a wake scheduled for Friday. In addition to today's class cancellations, weekend sports activities, Friday practice, a Friday fish fry and a Trivia Night Saturday all had been canceled at St. Thomas More.

Where were the safety concerns when the bullets were flying?

knee jerk reaction to draw much more attention to the event. If the school felt there were safety concerns all they had to do was cancel activities with some unrelated excuse like a plumbing leak or something similar. Wonder how many gawkers showed up anyway?

2. School shouldn't have been disrupted, scum like this should be left in a pit to rot.

due to gang members' funerals. A note went home to parents explaining the situation, cops showed up with their yellow tape and barricaded streets, kids went home early--it was no big deal (meaning it didn't get media coverage).
I guess this is different because they were trying to keep it a secret?
