A letter sent Thursday to parents of St. Thomas More students announced the closure, citing "threats of violence" related to the funeral of 28-year-old Rosalio Rincon.
-------------
Rincon, a Chicago resident wanted on federal and county cocaine-dealing charges, was shot and killed last Monday by a Hobart police officer as he drove his Hummer toward a Drug Enforcement Administration agent who was trying to arrest him.
------------
Rincon's attorney, John Cantrell, said details of the services were meant to be private.
"The family wanted the funeral in a place that couldn't cause a potential problem, so they chose this location for safety reasons," he said. "... Now the school's and the church's actions have made it public."
--------------
Public school district officials alerted parents by phone about a wake scheduled for Friday. In addition to today's class cancellations, weekend sports activities, Friday practice, a Friday fish fry and a Trivia Night Saturday all had been canceled at St. Thomas More.
