Who's a peasant?
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,298999,00.html

"Time to distract those peasants with pitchforks out there who are fit to be tied over being betrayed by Harry Reid, (House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the Democrats," he said.

I did read the transcript, and my impression was that he was saying some people were bringing in people who were not military people and pretending they were. How can one insult a person who was never a soldier? (unless I'm missing something that proves those people he was insulting were not ringers but actual soldiers...)

But I tend to think of lots of perspectives; but combined with ignorance, I may have missed out on something.

But I can't figure his latest quote out, in any way shape or form. Does he mean if one is a Democrat then one is automatically a peasant?

2. I'm not defending his larger statements but this is just a metaphor

What he's trying to say is that the Dem leadership are trying to use him as a boogeyman to distract the rank and file from being mad at them - as in the stereotypical Frankenstein/Dracula movie when all the townspeople start marching on the castle with torches and pitchforks. Given the amount of figurative castle-storming that goes on at DU about the Dem leadership this is one of those rare cases where he may actually have a point.

3. to Limbaugh, who you are quoting, a peasant is an ordinary person
that is "a non bigshot". He really should be using the word 'proletariat' though, since 'peasant' is traditionally a rural farm-worker and the vast majority of those people are solid Republicans.

As for the other issue, I think Media Matters has slipped up. Limbaugh does not clearly say what they claim, and ultimately we look foolish trying to condemn him in this case.

Limbaugh, unfortunately, seems to be correct here too, in that this is a bone tossed to moveon.org people who feel betrayed about the previous dust-up. In both cases, it is disturbing to me to see us apparently shooting ourselves in the foot and unable to get our sh*t together.

Stuff like this would not have happened if Media Matters had hired me back when I applied there a couple years ago. :P
