Student Sues After School Bans Anti-Abortion Club
Student Sues After School Bans Anti-Abortion Club

STAFFORD, Va. -- A Stafford County high school student is suing the county's school system for refusing to let her start an anti-abortion club.

The conservative Alliance Defense Fund is representing the student, who is not named in the lawsuit because she's a minor claiming her constitutional rights were violated.

Alliance Defense Fund lawyer David Cortman said the school should immediately permit the formation of the "pro-life club."

Colonial Forge High School Principal Lisa Martin denied the request for the club, saying it doesn't relate to the curriculum. In a letter to the student, Martin said the family life curriculum prohibits teachers from discussing abortion.

1. At my high school I started a Peace & Social Justice Club, plus we have
an Amnesty International, and a Gay-Straight Alliance. I don't see there can't be an anti-abortion club, but what do I know.

8. Right.
The student will most likely win the case. Of course, there may be some information not provided in this rather brief article. But from what is there, it is most likely the student will win the case.

That is not in any sense supporting the goals of the club. It is supporting the right of high school students to use the school in order to form clubs, even if those clubs tend to be unattractive to adults at the school or in the community.

5. Could I have an Pro-Choice Club, then?
Edited on Tue Oct-02-07 10:26 PM by noshenanigans
Actually, if I went to this high school I would totally be the person to start that just to prove we can if she can. Ah, now I remember why the high school administration never liked me.
