They never intend to leave Iraq. Democrat or Republican.

Don't be a fool.

2. Sometimes I scratch my head wondering---
Edited on Sat Sep-29-07 09:24 AM by OHdem10
Why has not everyone figured out what is going on here--
Right now the Republicans hold the mantle of being the best, strongest
party on Foreign Policy and "keeping us safe". Polls and surveys
show this, in spite of the "messedup Iraq situation".

The Republicans understand that in order to win elections they
must hang onto this image with all their might.

If they pull out of Iraq; and Iraq is not seen as a win, the Party
knows they lose one of their most potent party platform Issues. They
simply cannot let Iraq become the Republican Party's Vietnam. The
party would be placed in the jeopardy of losing elections into the
future. If in fact, the Democrats then handled it halfway effectively
they would become the Party of Foreign Policy and National Defense.
This would be a national shift, the GOP cannot fathom.

his is more important than GWB's legacy. This is about the survival of
GOP. This is what is driving the Republicans in the Senate to stick
it out with Bush. This is what drives them to come up with smears
on Democrats. This is what drove the Distraction and Time Spent on
MoveOn AD. This is what drives L/K Resolution. While it hurts
to admit it, the Democrats seem to be saying--Let the GOP stay in
charge.

The GOP have resolved for themselves(IMP) that HRC will be the next
President. They are not nearly as concerned over the Presidency
as keeping the House and Senate. If they keep the House and Senate
they believe thay can deal or keep HRC pushed back or under control.

The GOP understand Power and will not go down without a fight.
They cannot have Iraq be their Vietnam; and so the Dems are assisting
them to hold on to this power. The COP must regain control of House
and Senate. Staying in Iraq means at least they are not losing.
So stay they will. Do not let Anger with Bush cloud out what is
really going on.

Addendum: This is in no way intended to disparage HRC. It simply
means she is our most likely Candidate and very well may be the
next President. I am simply pointing out--We are no further ahead
if we have the Presidency and the GOP gets House and Senate.
You can subsitute, OBama or Edwards with the same result.

Sometimes, I get the impression our Senators and House Members do
not recognize what is going on.

3. Americans must be well and truly disgusted
As we do here, they must wonder who in Washington is listening to them and when this madness will stop.

Every senator who voted for this bill is obligated to tell us how they plan to pay for it.
