Clothes shopping with Mrs. Kucinich
(I know this isn't all that important but I thought some people might like to read it)

Even a gorgeous, slim, 6-foot-tall redhead can have wardrobe issues.

Consider Elizabeth Kucinich, wife of congressman and presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich. In recent weeks, she's attended a wide range of events, from an afternoon garden party for Queen Elizabeth at the British Embassy in Washington to a protest rally for arrested Mexican immigrants in Painesville.

How does one dress for such a varied and intensive travel schedule, under budget constraints and close public scrutiny? Rather than fall back on designer handouts (which are not allowed by campaign rules anyway) or splurges at Saks, the environmentally and socially conscious Kucinich has a fall-back strategy that is unusual for someone who's judged by her appearance daily.

Her tailor-made solution? Shopping at resale and consignment stores.

"It's a matter of priorities," says the 29-year-old Brit, who spent her late teens and early 20s working in economically deprived villages in India and Africa.

2. I was about to get pissed about this being a trite topic, then I got to the end. That is so cool.
I do the same, and it shocks me how many people do not make use of these places.

29. LOL! I was too!
I was expecting another Edwards haircut/Gore mansion type story. That is very cool.

6. She loves hats! I'd love to see a First Lady wearing hats again,

especially if her husband is President Kucinich.

Good on her for buying secondhand clothes. It's amazing what nice clothes are given away.

consignment stores are the only way to go-o-o.

I've the best threads and have paid nominally for them.

Helps to have a decent eye.

She's got a totally practical approach.

Bless her soul.

14. BlooInBloo, you got it
The nicer stuff is definitely going to be in the smaller sizes, because women that size are the ones buying the Collectors-type clothing from Nordstrom, restocking each season, and donating their gently-worn castoffs.

16. Ok - just as long as the official record reflects that I didn't equate "hot" with "smaller"...
... (shudders at the thought of the fat-bigotry-DU-police coming after him.)

20. BlooInBloo, I'm fat
I wasn't offended at your comment. I think she's lovely. There are some people who think I'm pretty, and there are some who may not be attracted because they prefer someone more athletic, shall we say.

I just don't like it when someone's obviously made up his or her mind that anyone who's fat is not human and/or worthy of the same courtesy and respect that I show to them.

IMHO, YMMV,
Julie

p.s. If we all have a get together in Seattle, will you be there? It would be great to chat with you sometime.

31. But take my word for it: not so easy when you're over 6 feet tall.
...I'm a 6'1" woman who's been this height since 1969 (I was 14) and buying clothes off the rack is a problem. Easier than it used to be, but still hard to find certain things that fit. There are clothes for large women, and I bet if I were a size 20 I could find them. But I'm a 10 and Ms Kucinich is smaller I think (she looks like an 8). And does she buy vegan clothes? That means no wool and no leather. (I'm a veggie, but I buy leather shoes) I'm actually surprised she finds any clothes at all.

sometimes we all need a break from the crap...

Maybe if we get Dennis elected, there wouldn't be so much crap to deal with!

12. She's lovely
I'm sure anything she chooses to wear will look beautiful on her.

I've never seen Ms. Kucinich wear anything that was less than modest and tasteful. She could give those who spend exponentially more than she does on clothing lessons on how to dress, that's for sure. (Mrs. Thompson may want to give her a call, for example.)

26. That's where I shop..and the Salvation
Army. I shop online, too..dangerous having the world at your fingertips.

How cute is this..last time Kucinich didn't even have a wife and now he has a 6 ft red headed, beautiful, English woman at his side..that's kinda ironic.

Dennis is also the Aloha candidate~ http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=103x309783
