passed the Webb Amendment, The DC Representation bill, and reinstated the Habeas Corpus standard for detainees.

With a handful of (R) and (I) supporters, we had a majority in each case, yet came up just that short of the 60 needed to bring each to a final, binding vote.

That's how close - and how far - we are to an effective Senate majority.

The '08 elections can't come soon enough.

:kick:

1. Weeks like this
should remind people that no matter how much you dislike Democrats who occasionally sell out, they're always better than the alternative.

5. The Indie Lieberman defeated the Democrat Lamont in 2006.
He isn't a Democrat. Any Democrat is better than any Republican.

(And on most social issues, Lieberman is to the left of the Republicans; he's at least better than a Brownback)

9. Joe just registered as a Dem last week
he put his finger to the wind and sees 2008 coming up and has decided to have another epiphany about his commitments.

10. Registered to vote, you mean
As a Senator, he's still an "Independent Democrat."

And he isn't up in 2008, btw.

16. It doesn't mean anything.
He hasn't breathed a word about switching parties to the Dems.

17. Oh, right, they don't listen to Fox
and have not been privy to Joe's soul searching since the 06 election.

:-)

11. I'm going to stick my neck out here
and say that VA will probably be one of those in '08. :) Mark Warner was a pretty damn good governor - even the Repubs didn't have too many bad things to say about him, from what I can tell - and I heard a rumor that his competition might be...drum roll please...Jim Gilmore. Plus, the name recognition thing - I hate to say it, but a lot of people won't know the difference between John and Mark, and will vote for the Warner that appears on the ballot. I guess we'll see, though.

I probably overlooked some other Republican "democratic" techniques...

8. And not one republican will vote for any bill
Do they think they are still going to win their elections. That should be part of the campaign their opponents wage against them.
