Do you believe for one second that Thompson doesn't recall any details about the Schiavo case
and therefore, can't possibly comment on it? What a CROCK.

"Thompson has no opinion on Schiavo case, says he doesn’t remember details"

THE VILLAGES, Fla. - Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson said Thursday he doesn’t know enough about efforts by President Bush and Congress to keep Terri Schiavo alive to have an opinion on the right-to-die case that stirred national debate.

Thompson was asked in an interview for Bay News 9’s "Political Connections" program if he thought Congress’ intervention to save the life of the brain-dead woman two years ago was appropriate.

"I can’t pass judgment on it. I know that good people were doing what they thought was best," Thompson said. "That’s going back in history. I don’t remember the details of it."

Congress passed a bill after Schiavo’s feeding tube was removed in March 2005 to allow a federal court to review the case, and Bush returned from his Texas ranch to sign the bill into law. But a federal judge refused to order the tube reinserted, a decision upheld by a federal appeals court and the Supreme Court.

Thompson, a former Tennessee senator who left office in 2003, did say, "Local matters generally speaking should be left to the locals. I think Congress has got an awful lot to keep up with."<snip>

1. If he can't remember enough about it to have an opinion, then he's clearly unable to discharge...
... the duties of President Of The United States.

12. That makes him the ideal republican, lying and double-dealing
right out of the chute. Won't take responsibility, won't tell the truth, firmly believes in IOKIYAR, and has been a fake, acting at life, for so many years he has no idea who he actually is. Yep...ideal repuke candidate.

5. No--his best buddy Frist made the whole charade a career highlight.
There's no way Thompson wasn't following it enough to know the details. Utter bullshit--he's doing the same thing he did when confronted with his abortion-lobbying past: "I don't remember", followed by, "maybe I did--what's it to you?"

to fly back and kiss Frist's ass.

8. I'm really tired of this "I can't recall" bullshit. I might expect it if
he was a known stoner. He doesn't resemble one to me.

9. He's obviously running on the Alzheimer's "I Don't Recall" platform, a la Reagan.
He saw how effectively Abu Gonzo used that approach. It's the logical extension of "plausible deniability": Implausible Deniability.

11. Isn't he running as the successor to the Reagan legacy?
At least he's trying to be consistent.

13. "That’s going back in history. I don’t remember the details of it."
do those details go farther back than Auschwitz, for example?

that sounds EXACTLY like something B*** would say, doesn't it?

15. The funny thing is that freepers still don't understand why "they" lost the case.
Even ignoring the absurd construction of the "Terri's Law" statute, her parents kept losing because you can't get a TRO if you don't have standing to bring a case in the first place.

The courts were more than tolerant of her parents. If anything, they had excessive "due process" considering their lack of standing regarding an adult, married child.
