5. Today is "stand-down" day for the AF too. No jets above.
ACC orders commandwide standdown Friday

By Bruce Rolfsen - Staff writer
Posted : Monday Sep 10, 2007 17:38:42 EDT

On Sept. 14, flight lines will be very quiet at Air Combat Command bases.

The entire command — about 100,000 active-duty airmen — is standing down training flights and many other operations as part of a command-wide safety day.

Command boss Gen. Ronald Keys ordered the Sept. 14 safety standdown in the wake of the Aug. 30 nuclear incident at Minot Air Force Base, N.D., in which six cruise missiles armed with nuclear warheads were loaded onto a B-52H and then flown to Barksdale Air Force Base, La., without anyone on the ground or bomber realizing the nuclear weapons were on the plane. It was not until the B-52H was parked at Barksdale that ground crews discovered the cruise missiles were carrying real warheads.

Command spokesman Maj. Tom Crosson said wing commanders would determine how their units review operations and safety procedures and checklists.

Just how serious Keys takes the lapse of regulations at Minot is reflected in the fact that the safety stand-down is the first command wide safety day in recent memory. In the past, the command has singled out specific types of aircraft for safety days and in 1997 the Department of Defense held a department wide safety review day.

7. Oh man! Thanks for the warning.
I needed to run an errand on QMCB and was just getting ready to leave. I think I can accomplish it this afternoon, or maybe tomorrow.

THANKS! I bet both 1 and 95 are parking lots now. :hi:

9. Wouldn't he take Marine One?
I95 is always packed. I can't imagine closing it for his motorcade. Locals would really hate him then.

 My Rant:
There were plans for three beltways around Washington at one time. They were roughly like rings on a target. Scrapping those plans was a major mistake.
There needs to be some kind of Rt 95 bypass to route thru traffic away from the insane rush hour traffic we have now.

To put 12 lanes of I95 traffic across the Potomac in one location is not a wise move.
That bridge was shut down for a jumper when it was only 6 lanes. Some commuters didn't get home until well after midnight. If it became a terrorist target, the impact on interstate commerce would be unbelievable. The impact on local traffic would be major. It would pretty much shut down Washington.

Two helicopters flew directly over central Alexandria headed southwest at 11:12 a.m. Three additional helos were sighted (for a total of five) near the Potomac River by a scanner listener in the Ballston part of Arlington County.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CH-46 , isn't that what they use?

They'll be back.

13. Oh, correction! Dear Leader seemingly always chooses Marine Corps 1 to QMCB, but it's still a zoo
Edited on Fri Sep-14-07 11:47 AM by ShortnFiery
as far as "increased security" on the Marine Corps base. Further, often the traffic backs up into the local communities and that includes highway 1. However, you're correct - traffic on I - 95 south should not be affected much.

Unlike the southwest (Phoenix, AZ comes to mind) the folks in Northern Virginia build the housing developments FIRST. Roadways and mass transportation is a true afterthought. In fact, even on a local road level, the answer to ever problem is to merely, "put up another light." :(

Thanks for your interest, but I-95 is basically a parking lot from Springfield South through Massaponax VA, weekdays from 3-7PM. :hi:
