2. It's all right.....
Welcome to DU.

I know how you feel. The war in Viet Nam = my adolescence.

I really thought we would never make these mistakes again.

3. Wow. That's a hell of a perspective. Good for you.
You are that someone. The fact that you are engaged is proof that we have a chance of growing up as a country. It gives me a lot of encouragement that you are paying attention. As you continue to do so, those around you will learn from you. Keep it up! You deserve a lot of credit for being so responsible.

And best of luck in your studies.

5. i have a few friend over there too
Edited on Thu Sep-13-07 09:03 PM by iamthebandfanman
so i feel your pain. sucks being young in this day and age.
i really feel for them, but dont let them know to harshly about my views.
i hate to make anyone over there feel like they might die for absolutely no reason beyond greed. so i keep my mouth shut to my friends in uniform.
i care to much for them to protest something to their face that they cant get out of. i just pray they come back home alive when this is said and done, if it ever is.
they know i dont agree they should be there, but i dont ever point out just how unneccary it truely was.

9. I wish our candidates cared about the soldiers before the war.
The thought that the evidence wasn't there and most of our democratic presidential candidates gave this psycho bush power to kill people? And they continued to fund the war until now and this dip shit will be out of office before its over. If they fund this war one more cent they should completely lose any vote from anyone that wants this war over. They have played politics with our friends and families lives this whole time and now we all post about why we want to vote for them. Bush fooled them and they fooled us!

It makes me feel good that Dennis Kucinich has never supported this war for money at any point. He didn't play politics with peoples lives and I appreciate his great outlook on the subject and will be giving him my vote. You all can vote for the ones with blood on their hands all you want but not me, I am appalled at democratic candidates playing games with human lives, its disgusting!

11. I apologize for my part in letting this happen -- and for being part of
the continuing problem. I'm ashamed that someone of my generation (60's) allowed this to occur again. We want to right the wrong, we want to make it stop. And we're trying and we're getting stronger. I understand your frustration and rage. Thank you for your perspective.

14. Amen Dahoot! Write or call all your GOP congresscritters and senators
and urge them to IMPEACH NOW!!! The Dems want to impeach, but dont have the votes. That is what you can do. If there are enough of us who write these sons of B****es, regardless of where they are from, what district they represent, etc, congress may actually ge the freaking message. the Bushies are INsane!

IMPEACHMENT SHOULD BE ON THE TABLE!!!!!

BTW, I'm almost 30 years your senior, and I've said worse. Scary thought, isn't it, that your language could get worse? heh heh.

One of my friends was younger than that when this war started, and now he's dead. He would have been twenty in a little more than a week. :( I hate this fucking war.

18. I was 12 when my brother was drafted to serve during Vietnam.
I was serving in Vietnam when the ceasefire was finally negotiated.

It seems hopeless and stupid because just as it was then, it is stupid and hopeless now.

24. My daughter just turned 17
6 weeks after she was born her uncle shipped out to the Gulf, she was there at the airport to send him off. 17 years later, he is there again. Between that time we have had friends/family in Bosnia/Somalia and Afghanistan.

5 wars in 17 years. Is it any wonder she is going to DC tommorrow to protest?

28. Jeez, it puts a hell of a perspective on this
I live next door to a middle school, in the time since we've bought this house the first graduating class has gone out into the world, there are a few of them in the military now as well. It's up to your generation to stand on it's hind legs and stop the madness, I'm just a tired old crippled up fart who couldn't man a barricade if my life depended on it.
It sucks big green ones to see your friends killed in someone elses war, i saw it first hand, I never thought I'd see it again, but here it is. Welcome aboard, hang around you'll get a hell of an education here.

30. We (FDR & Truman) defeated Germany, Japan and Italy in less time.

Smirky can't seem to locate OBL or the WMD's no matter how many lives or billions of dollars he wastes. Europe loved us right after WW-II, now the whole world hates us thanks to this asshole. We once had some loyal 'allies', now all we have is a few fair weather friends.

32. Interesting perspective (tho actually you were a 9th grader when Iraq started up).
I myself was a wee lad o' 39 when we shocked and awed our way into the hearts of bin Laden. That's a lot of years of fuck up. Some time around January 2005, Bush quit being an aberration in US history and started being a harbinger of our diminished status from world leader.
