John Smoltz (Atlanta Braves): Karma sucks, man.
A couple of years ago, Atlanta pitcher John Smoltz was widely quoted when he compared gay marriage to bestiality.

“Smoltz, a devout Christian, criticized those who want to legalize gay marriage,” the AP reported. “‘What’s next? Marrying an animal?’ he asked derisively.”

John Smoltz is again in the news today:

Braves pitcher John Smoltz is getting a divorce.

The agency that represents Smoltz, Career Sports & Entertainment, said Friday that the pitcher and his wife, Dyan, had mutually agreed to split after some 16 years of marriage. They have four school-age children, a son and three daughters.

"At this time, their priority is with their family, specifically the well-being of their four children," said Lonnie Cooper, Smoltz's agent. "We ask that you please respect their privacy during this difficult time. The family will not be commenting on this personal matter."

Funny, he was more than willing to comment on OUR personal marriage-related matters. Asshat...

1. It's all about the sanctity of marriage.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to file my divorce papers.

2. Probably was caught having sex with an animal. Only somebody
with a guilty conscience would have conjured up that quip about marrying an animal.

5. Typical rich jock.
What is it with all these fuckers? They have no trouble condemning others, once they get treated like royalty for throwing a baseball, or whatever.

Yes, that explains their decision to divorce...for the well-being of the family. :sarcasm:

7. He'll go 3-15, 6.21 this season
and blame it on "personal difficulties."

And I shall laugh my ass off.

8. The first article says that Smoltz later accused the AP of misquoting him
Anyone have a follow-up to that?

13. I'm not surprised
They always claim they're "misquoted" when they say something hateful and people object. Didn't John Rocker also claim he was misquoted when he slammed AIDS patients and African-Americans?

You know, the fundies just can't seem to get that family values thing down, can they?

I wonder if he's Catholic? If so, this is a sin!!

Smoltz, wife of 16 years divorcing

Braves star John Smoltz and his wife Dyan are getting a divorce, the pitcher's agent said Friday.

They have been married 16 years, have four children, and have been active in the Atlanta community through the John and Dyan Smoltz Foundation.

Agent Lonnie Cooper said in a release that the couple, who own a home in Alpharetta, "mutually decided to end their marriage," and asked that their privacy be respected. John Smoltz couldn't be reached for comment Friday night.

He attended the Braves' pitching mini-camp last week at Turner Field and is scheduled to report with the team's pitchers and catchers to spring training Thursday in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

11. Fun fact...
John Smoltz once had to go on the DL because of burns he sustained while trying to iron a shirt.

Punchline? He was trying to iron the shirt while wearing it.

Clearly not dealing with a Mensa candidate here. That's sad about his marriage, sadder yet about his overarching dipshittery...

12. The only people I feel sorry for are his children. Otherwise, I
hope he feels the same amount of pain he inflicted on those with his comments comparing gay marriage to animal sex.

What a awful creature.
