A fine DU'er mentioned the name of an actress I had not heard of (Annabella Sciorra - I don't watch a lot of tv, nothing against it just not practical given my situation) so I went and looked her up.

So I find this web site showing the usual stuff, movies she was in, etc, and then I see -Risk Factors: Smoking- so I click on it and get a super long assed list of famous smokers from Yoko Ono to JK Rowling (btw - if you find a link for other 'risk factors' share it, I couldn't find other ones right quick)

Who the hell has time to research such stuff and come up with these lists?? I mean, I fight off the smoking nazis every chance I get but damn :)

I do wonder about its accuracy. (Are Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and CS Lewis, smokers along with all those GOP first ladies?) Maybe it was paid for by an industry group.

when there was some old black & white movie on.. Cops were sitting in bars ON DUTY..having a "few drinkie-poos"...EVERYONE SMOKED.. ALL they time.. in bed, in the kitchen, in the office, on the streets..everywhere..

The 30's, 40's & 50's, for all their traumas were a pretty free-wheeling time for personal liberties (for some people)

Rich White men ruled the world, and the world had to go along with their "vices"..
(rich white men still pretty much rule the world, but they have been shamed into giving up a lot of their vices along the way..at least in public)..

Overt sex was about the only taboo in movie-making..
