"Rahm Emanuel is tough on corned beef sandwiches, loose in the stool"(RE: Restoring Bill of Rights)
from FDL:

The Mighty Rahm is Scared Shitless?
By: Pachacutec

Here’s what I see, after watching congress closely for a while now: Rahm Emanuel is tough on corned beef sandwiches, loose in the stool over fighting a failed president and restoring the Bill of Rights. Similarly, he’s been just as willing to sell out working people and the rights of migrants. He even stabbed Pelosi and Murtha in the back by leading the fight to pull the Iran language from the recent supplemental. Rahm, after all, was first elected as a Chicago machine pol running against a grassroots progressive, and it’s all he knows.

Is it just me, or do the toughest “guys” in the party all seem to be gals? Perhaps Rep. Schakowsky can get him binkie.

If you like, gently, soothingly ask Rahm Emanuel not to be so skeered. Be really nice and sweet; don’t startle him. He’s quite the sensitive swan. Specifically, ask him to be vocal and forceful in supporting a restoration of habeas corpus and an end, with firm deadlines, to the occupation in Iraq:

1. That's the funniest fucking subject line I've read in a while.
And I'm not sure he listens to anyone who doesn't agree with his current positions unless they represent millions of dollars.

4. So support those that are trying to do just that
Rahm's hopeless. But others are fighting like hell to restore habeas.

6. I've written my Senator, Sherrod Brown repeatedly.
First he voted for and supported the MCA '06 and after elected he came to his senses and is now co-sponsoring legislation to restore it.

My point in posting this is we need to put pressure on ALL Dems and even Republicans to support restoration of Habeas Corpus.

5. How did we lose it to begin with?
By the corruption of the Bush administration in partnership with the cowardice of the Dems in Congress.

Upholding the Constitution isn't up for debate. Neither is protecting habeus corpus.

7. Here's a good KO commentary on MCA and Habeas Corpus:
The death of habeas corpus
Olbermann: ‘The president has now succeeded where no one has before’

Death of habeas corpus?
Oct. 10: Part of the Military Commissions Act seems to eliminate the right of habeas corpus. “Countdown” examines in a special investigation.

COMMENTARY
Countdown
Updated: 1:35 p.m. ET Oct 11, 2006

On “Countdown” Keith Olbermann examined the Military Commission’s Act of 2006 and what it does to something called habeas corpus.

The following is a transcript of Keith Olbermann's special report on habeas corpus, as reported on Tuesday, October 10th:

The president has now succeeded where no one has before. He’s managed to kill the writ of habeas corpus. Tonight, a special investigation, how that, in turn, kills nothing less than your Bill of Rights. Because the Mark Foley story began to break on the night of September 28, exploding the following day, many people may not have noticed the bill passed by the Senate that night.

Congress passed the Military Commission’s Act to give Mr. Bush the power to deal effectively with America’s enemies—those who seek to harm the country. He has been very clear on who he thinks that is.

2. Rahm, you ignorant slut
He's the biggest political prostitute to come down the pike in a very long time. He's completely self centered. His only interest is in lining his pockets and gutting the Dem party by getting as many DINO's as possible elected to office.

Any Dem in Congress who fears, respects or even listens to him isn't competent to hold office.

Terrorism Policies Split Democrats
Anger Mounts Within Party Over Inaction on Bush Tactics
By Jonathan Weisman
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, August 30, 2007; A01

A growing clamor among rank-and-file Democrats to halt President Bush's most controversial tactics in the fight against terrorism has exposed deep divisions within the party, with many Democrats angry that they cannot defeat even a weakened president on issues that they believe should be front and center.

The Democrats' failure to rein in wiretapping without warrants, close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay or restore basic legal rights such as habeas corpus for terrorism suspects has opened the party's leaders to fierce criticism from some of their staunchest allies -- on Capitol Hill, among liberal bloggers and at interest groups.

At the Democratic-leaning Center for American Progress yesterday, panelists discussing the balance between security and freedom lashed out at Democratic leaders for not standing up to the White House. "These are matters of principle," said Mark Agrast, a senior fellow at the center. "You don't temporize."

9. Please notice that Dems who have stood against this shit from the beginning
get NO AIR TIME!
One of the basic problems with the Dem Party was the abandonment of grassroots organizing. We opted for big money donors & running sound bite ad campaigns (with a few exceptions - i.e. Kucinich).
Some of our elected officials have stood on the floor of Congress and pointed out what was going on.
Was it carried by mainstream media? Hell no!
I am not apologizing for Rahm Emmanuel or any of the rest of them. But it ain't gonna change until were are organized enough at the grassroots level & create alternate means of delivering important information.
I've talked to way too many Dems who say that Congress is doing nothing. I point out people like Kucinich and the resolution to Impeach Cheney. The response I usually get is: Why haven't I heard about that?
People need to know what's really going on and our being pissed off at Rahm Emmanuel (and I am) isn't going to inform them of anything. THERE HAS TO BE A CONNECTION MADE AT THE BASIC LEVEL OR CHANGE WON'T HAPPEN!
