Foley likely to face no charges.
Investigators: Evidence not enough to merit criminal charges against Foley

WASHINGTON — Former Congressman Mark Foley is unlikely to face criminal charges for sending sexually explicit e-mails to teenage boys, sources close to the yearlong investigation have told Scripps Howard News Service.

That could change if new evidence surfaces in the next week that proved Foley, 52, sent online messages to male teenagers with the intent to “seduce, solicit, lure, entice, or attempt to seduce a child,” a third-degree felony under Florida law.

But as of now, the end of Foley’s political career may be the most severe consequence that the former congressman faces for the revelations that stunned his longtime supporters and prompted his immediate resignation, just weeks before the 2006 election. The Fort Pierce Republican represented parts of St. Lucie, Martin, Okeechobee and Palm Beach counties.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement said this week that the investigation should be completed within the next several days.

republicans are greasy bastards.. It's hard to hold them long enough to punish them for anything they do..

There's a long list of republicans who wriggle out of their scandals..

Alberto FU5
Bush
Cheney
Newt
Hastert
Delay
Rover
Libby
Ollie North
John Fund
etc etc

there are few who are SO blatant that they do get caught Duke-ster, Ney, Abramoff come to mind..but most just "go away" for a while and then rehabilitate themselves and come roaring back

2. I understand he hit on 18+ men
Not to support the GOP bastard for his sexual peccadillos, but let's not condemn him without evidence of criminal action. His subjects were 18 or older. While not an attractive thought when it's Foley, it is legal to hit on a legal adult.

I've seen no evidence to indicate unlawfulness, just a lack of personal ethics and a comingling of his personal life with his work life, neither of which is criminal, albeit inadvisable.

6. You're understanding is incorrect. I am sure he hit on all sorts of
people, but the pages were minors.

7. All the reports I read said they were 18 or over
He would send them emails or call them AFTER they were 18 years old. If there are reports that say otherwise, point me to 'em, but I never saw any reports that said he hit on minors.

I think I followed it closely enough, but hey, I could be educated. Show me. A link will suffice.

11. Read the Wikipedia article on the Foley scandal and the
footnotes. Unless we have wildly differing views of what "hit on" means, there were minors involved.

10. The statute they are investigating him for violating requires that
a minor be involved. This is from Newsweek:

"It took some time, but last week Foley himself was tracked down. Confronted by ABC News with sexually explicit messages he had exchanged with 16- and 17-year-old congressional pages, Foley abruptly resigned his seat."

12. I see... sexy written innuendos with 16-17 year olds is the acccusation
I guess we just don't know the facts in the case yet, because even Republicans don't like child abusers. I doubt anyone would get away with that if there were enough evidence to convict.

13. But the House of Representatives won't let law enforcement
inspect his computers, which is hindering the investigation. This refusal is supposedly based on "case law." If you or I did the same thing on a computer at work, well you can imagine what would happen.

I'd have a bunch of guys in swat gear breaking down the door and carrying off every piece of electronics I own.

3. In which case, justice is dead in America.
Unless you're a liberal.

I'm sick of this. Rush walks. Chong does hard time. I see the same thing with the drug war versus nicotine. Simply hypocritically amazingly sick.

What can one do? Only when the majority of people are burdened by this will it change.

4. What can you do? Go after GOP contributors with boycotts.
You'll complain to Rush's advertisers but will you complain to GOP's friends and boycott them en masse until things change?

If you answer no, then stew in your own frustration.
