My letter on Republican troubles makes it to print
This is taking some stuff from a recent article in the conservative UK magazine "The Economist" - I'm actually surprised they printed it, as I've submitted a few letters connecting Republicans to fascism before that were never printed, and I thought they were better.

REPUBLICAN TROUBLE

The Conservative British magazine “The Economist” recently had an article on the American Republican Party and how it was in big trouble. The magazine complained about “the embrace of a hyper-conservative agenda of social moralizing, beyond-the-pale cronyism, an unhealthy dose of nativism and racism, corruption so blatant it has become institutionalized, a borrow-and spend budgetary philosophy, and redistribution of wealth to the very rich that has appalled all but the Christianist right and some very wealthy allies.” This all but labels modern Republicans as fascists. Newt Gingrich, the father of today’s Republicanism, has also had very harsh words for his party’s performance this century. With collapsing bridges and mines and exploding steam pipes plaguing our country, we’re living with the legacy of Compassionate Conservatism and Supply-Side Economics.

1. Good for you!
Can't get to the article, but I wonder if considering they are quite conservative they prefer your lesser work due to not wanting to make themselves look too stupid even when confessing some of the errors of their ways. <grin>

I've submitted a few letters connecting Republicans to fascism before that were never printed, and I thought they were better.

2. I have no idea, actually
Maybe they were just too strongly worded for this kind of newspaper?

3. Or had too many "facts"...
I've watched the media game pretty closely since 2004 leading up to the "selection". The overt control is lessening. After the choke hold was broken and the main stream media actually began reporting facts although the best articles were buried editors paid attention when those articles still got major hits in blog world.

What I always suspect with conservative news outlets that principally support the administration is that their idea of "fair & balanced" coverage is still skewed and that like with Colmes & Hannity they stack the deck against the voices of reason.

They pick the most borderline statements or put 3 against 1 in a shout off on radio & tv so to make it seem that DEMs are the minority opinion whose message is really not worth bothering to pay attention to.

However, if they are genuinely printing a contrasting viewpoint in full it could be a sign that they too really see how dangerous this admin is and are choosing to step up and that would be forward progress on a whole other level.

At any rate, your contribution and the fact they took it is progress. How far forward.... we can only hope for the best and keep on the media to stop being complicit in the administration's crimes.
