This is taking some stuff from a recent article in the conservative UK magazine "The Economist" - I'm actually surprised they printed it, as I've submitted a few letters connecting Republicans to fascism before that were never printed, and I thought they were better.
REPUBLICAN TROUBLE The Conservative British magazine “The Economist” recently had an article on the American Republican Party and how it was in big trouble. The magazine complained about “the embrace of a hyper-conservative agenda of social moralizing, beyond-the-pale cronyism, an unhealthy dose of nativism and racism, corruption so blatant it has become institutionalized, a borrow-and spend budgetary philosophy, and redistribution of wealth to the very rich that has appalled all but the Christianist right and some very wealthy allies.” This all but labels modern Republicans as fascists. Newt Gingrich, the father of today’s Republicanism, has also had very harsh words for his party’s performance this century. With collapsing bridges and mines and exploding steam pipes plaguing our country, we’re living with the legacy of Compassionate Conservatism and Supply-Side Economics.
