Poll question: Lori Berenson: Is she Guilty or Innocent?
Edited on Sun Aug-19-07 11:14 AM by Taverner
Lori Berenson is a US citizen currently being held as a political prisoner in Perú. There are lots of conflicting facts surrounding her imprisonment and trials. The Peruvian Govt accuses her of renting a safe house that was used for anti-government rebels. The Peruvian Govt deemed this group as terrorists, of course one mans terrorist is another's freedom fighter.

Here's a pro and con to be Fair And Balanced ;)

1. I don't think she's done anything to deserve the sentence she's serving

There were also allegations that police slipped drugs into her food before her trail so as to make her look crazed. Even if Lori did violate some relatively minor laws, I think the Peruvian government just wanted a scapegoat.

2. Completely agree
The prison conditions are deplorable, seemingly designed to kill off the inmates through deprivation, neglect, and malice. There may be a few people in the world whose crimes would justify such treatment, but there is no government which should have the right to foster inhumane conditions. The potential for abuse of power is far too strong.
