'May God forgive America' ROCK VALLEY, Iowa -- The Mini Editorial last Thursday was right on. I believe this war has made us less safe from terrorism, and will again quote something I wrote in a Letter to The Journal before the war in Iraq began. It was a quote by a columnist , Jack Mabley, who wrote, "One respected writer who has spent years in Arabian nations warns that attacking Iraq 'is like flipping a rock into a hornet's nest.'" This has happened.
Mabley goes on to state, "A major reason Bush Sr. didn't send troops accross the desert to capture Hussein was his concern for the likely loss of American lives. Bush Sr. knew war and its human cost." Bush Jr. is full thottle ahead, as we daily listen to loss of American lives, as well as Iraqis, including many civilians.
It is a severe cost in lives and money. The nonpartisan Congessional Budget Office has estimated the cost of prosecuting the Iraq war up to $9 billion per month. The Pentagon estimates the cost for the war at a $5.8 billion per month. This war is not comparable to another. We were the aggressor. Hussein would have been crazy to attack the U.S. We would have immediately responded, maybe with nuclear weapons.
May God bless America. May God forgive America. -- Myra Heuer
