I watched the trailer for Rendition last night---- WOW!

The cast of Reese Witherspoon, Jake Gyllenhaal and Meryl Streep should make this a pretty big movie, and the message just might sink through to Moran America about what Rendition is all about.

23. There are a whole slew of anti-war and politically themed movies coming out soon...

Films like "Lions for Lambs", "Rendition", "In The Valley of Elah", "The Hurt Locker", "Grace is Gone", "Stop Loss", and "Redacted" all sound like movies to check out in the coming months. I think Hollywood is discovering that if they want to get more people coming to see *timely* and relevant films right away at the theaters before they go on home video that they should start doing more on these sorts of subjects!

26. the story seems to mirror Maher Arar's

Go to Maher Arar's website. Google his name to get all sorts of information. This story seems to be a close parallel to his. The differences seem to be that Maher is Canadian and his wife, Monia Mazigh, wears the hijab.

But you know what? The part of the hero is the same. The hero in Maher's story is Monia. She fought for him with all the strength that love can give a human being. She fought to discover where he was and who sent him there. She fought politicians and secret service in Canada, the US and Syria to get him back home. She fought ostracization in the Muslim community because ordinary people wear afraid that they would come under suspicion, too, and be made guilty by association. She continues the fight to heal him, clear his name and bring the criminals to justice.

I'll be watching this film when it comes out. And I'll be thinking of Monia all the way through.

34. It's just a movie.

I won't get my hopes up that it will change anything or enlighten anyone. It could well get lost in the sea of political movies set to be released this year. Imperial Life in the Emerald City with Matt Damon might have the best chance at getting through to people, when they see how screwed up the invasion and aftermath was.
