Hello, everyone!

If you've been paying any attention to the little square stickies slowly scrolling by on the top of your computer screen, you may have noticed some cryptic references to an alleged Golden Sticky.



We thought that if we put some cryptic messages on a few stickies, we could perhaps build a little buzz for a promotion we're having during this fund drive. As it turns out, we thought wrong and hardly anyone cared or noticed, which just goes to show that even the DU Admins sometimes get stuff wrong. (Or depending on your point of view, it proves once again that we are wrong on almost everything.) Shockingly, not even a reference to the beloved DU icon Lloyd Bentsen could get your attention.

But still. Despite the fact that our buzz-creation efforts so far have been both ham-handed and completely ineffective, the promotion still happening. What you need to know is this: YOU HAVE THE CHANCE TO WIN FREE STUFF! The winners get their choice of anything in the DU Store.

In order to be eligible, you need to post a sticky on Grovelbot's big board before 12:00 NOON (Eastern Time), MONDAY AUGUST 20, 2007. Every sticky you post increases your chances of winning, so keep on posting those stickies!

Participants have two chances to win:

Category 1: Best sticky. On Monday, the admins will start a thread in the General Discussion forum (and on my DU Journal) taking nominations for best sticky. From those nominations, the admins will choose up to 10 that we consider to be the best. (Highly controversial stickies are unlikely to be selected. Nor are stickies created by the DU admins.) When the nominees are chosen, we'll post a poll in the General Discussion forum (and on my DU Journal) to select the winner.

Category 2: The Golden Sticky. We will also select one sticky, at random, as the Golden Sticky. Whoever posted that sticky will be the winner. For this category, controversial stickies ARE eligible to win, but sadly, stickies created by the DU admins are not.

So after you donate, make sure you remember to POST THOSE STICKIES!

To answer some frequently asked questions:

You are not required to post any stickies if you donate. But if you do not post a sticky, you are not eligible to win.

You are not required to post your stickies at the same time that you donate. When you donate, you are given credits to create your stickies. You can use those credits any time between now and 12:00 NOON (Eastern Time), MONDAY AUGUST 20, 2007.

I scoured the other pages and sent Spinner a PM and he said it was removed because this is a Democratic Party website and not a Communist party site.

I donated and created a sticky but someone else did half the design work and then it was posted from an anonymous IP address and, unknown to the original poster and designer, that same sticky had been previously used by a different poster who thought it was their sticky that had won and attempted to claim my FREE STUFF?

I think I'll call my lawyer now...just in case.
