With all these factors in the righteous one's favor, what's to stop him?

1. I don't think Bush's backing
will be much of an asset.

7. well
I don't attribute any supernatural powers to the Bush family. If they were as all-powerful as some here believe, Poppy wouldn't have lost in '92. Hell, he would've won in '80.

2. Al Gore
He would crush Hillary or Obama. I think he'd be neck and neck with Edwards.

Al Gore would trounce him in a general election.

As "Christian" as this nation is purported to be, many of them aren't going to be able to overlook his Mormonism.

NOTHING will energize their base more than nominating Hillary. Nothing.

11. Dems got debils in da head
Dems have a penchant for self-doubt it seems.

One late night about the end of August 1992 I was driving across northern AZ listening to Jimmy Breslin boldly say "there's no doubt, as soon as it was announced, it'll be Clinton/Gore".
He was right.

This is one of those moments. It's the dems to lose.

Mormon is about as bad as Muslim down there. In anything less than true red states, that would seriously depress turnout, if not lead to turnout against him.

Could easily lose Virginia, North Carolina, Arkansas, Missouri and Florida. Probably not all of them, but he hardly needs to in order to be non-viable.

Nevermind that no Republican is going to win Nevada or New Mexico thanks to the nativist spree they've gone on.

24. I don't think Bush's backing is an asset at this point, but Romney doesn't have to worry about...
being linked to the Bush administration and its failures the way that, say Tom Ridge would be if he were running for president. It is quite clear that the republican candidates are keeping a good amount of distance between themselves and Bush, so that they can run as candidates who may share Bush's conservative vision (as they would say) but who are not mired in the corruption, incompetence, and stupidity that plagues Bush.

25. "Cutest" is not a word I would use to describe Mittens.
Man I hate that guy.

I think America will show it's anti-anything-too-different colors in this election to be honest, which outs Mittens. And probably Clinton and Obama too.

On a practical level, I'm starting to see John Edwards as our candidate.

27. Honest Question!!!
...and to all the Mormon DU'ers I apologize in advance for showing my ignorance....

How much influence/pressure can the Mormon Church bring to bear on Mormon voters if Romney wins the Republican nomination?

I am NOT accusing Mormons of marching in lock-step with their church...but I do wonder what pressure may come their way to vote for a fellow Mormon. How is political Independence viewed within the church?

Once again, I apologize in advance for any offense that may come due to my ignorance...

:D

IF when mitt fudd is the nominee, the Dems HAVE to make that a VERY BIG issue, considering fudd's endorsement of all things iraq war.
