I have a fantastic idea for a new forum.... Let's see if we can get it started!!
The GOODBYE Forum:

A place for those duers who have spent their last shell. A farewell to all of their beloved DU friends. A place to vent about where DU went wrong. In general a place where the all important GOODBYE can have it's own place in perpetuity.

and then.....when a poster wants to come back we should have an:

I'M BACK forum:

Your first post back on DU must be made here so we can all keep track how many times a beloved poster has left only to return.

What do you all think.... Should we try to get one going??

I sick and tired of all these goofy forums. I just can't take it any more. I' gone. Farewell cruel world.

6. "Goodbye posts" are usually "talk me into staying" posts.
I've been on forums and message boards on the internet for years and have seen it over and over. The dramatic "I'm leaving" posts. There have been boards I have left where I have been active and I just spare everybody the dramatic goodbyes. I couldn't imagine an entire forum of them, but it would be great if all such posts were moved to such a place.

13. Spot on.
Those threads just befuddle the hell out of me.

As the poster above said, it is more like they are "talk me out of leaving" threads.

If i get to the point where i can't take this place anymore, i'll just stop fucking opening the website.
If my emotions get so wound up in this place and the tens of thousands of faceless opinion fountains it contains, i know where the power cord plugs in.

12. Now an obit forum would have merit.
It would be a nice and simple way to memorialize those DUers who have died, to keep their names alive. Also, it could be a way for us to see and appreciate aspects of their lives which we might not have known about.

10. After a week's vacation, I tell you what you could name it-
... Why not - "We'll be back after the break""?

I've never had long stretches of continual posts here, based on the number I've totaled since 2004, but we just spent a week in a cabin with friends- no phone, no television, definitely no internets. Many warm nights sitting around, sometimes in deep doo doo about the nature of things all mentioned here- very instrumental and provoking and yet, yeilding a break when it got heavy for the other to come up for air.

And so it seems to a good way to allow a renewal of thout here. I think the Joe Clarks of DU would be more encouraged. Don't you think people need to come up for air? I have seen those who are on a dive.

I'm splashing on the surface again... :bounce:
