Where is the outrage for the Newark NJ murders???????
When Natalee Holloway turn up missing, when couldn’t get her picture off of the television. When Jon Benet Ramsey was killed, for four years we had to hear about her murder. When anyone with blond hair and blue eyes is wronged, we can never hear enough about it. But, young kids, who are on their way to college, are gunned down execution-style, it is pretty much swept under the rug. Where is the outrage? How come this has fallen out of the national spotlight so quickly?

I am just a little upset right now, and needed a place to vent! I live in Georgia now, but I am a New Jersey native. I am going to start sending emails to the Congress, the Senate, and media outlets.

1. Selective outrage...
We can get up in arms about certain things while others are ignored.

I don't really understand it.

2. I was wondering the same thing.
The media normally camps out to report on such news but all I have seen are the normal daily reporting with updates about the suspects.

11. If you're getting coverage about the suspects then the media is covering the story
Edited on Mon Aug-13-07 11:48 AM by Mike Daniels
Missing persons stories where there's no suspect can only approach the story from one angle which is why there's so much coverage about the victim.

Once the suspects in a crime are caught the story becomes more about the "why" vs. the "who and at this time it still seems that the "Why" has not been answered. Th

At it stands I've seen coverage every morning on the news since this crime took place.

3. I've heard about it quite a bit, actually. I think it was well-publicized.
The police are catching the perpetrators, and I've heard the kids' stories and saw the interviews with the families. I think an adequate amount of attention was paid. The crime has been mostly solved--maybe that's the difference, rather than the racial makeup of those involved. It's shocking and sad, but...you can only cover it so long if there's no mystery or controversy.

4. Its not a big mystery like a missing person or unknown assailant
and it happened in a part of New Jersey known for violence. Horrible yes but not a media grabber like when it happens in a wealthy enclave.

5. The Jon-Benet and Holloway stories
were "popular" because they were mysteries. There's no mystery surrounding these Jersey murders, but they ARE getting plenty of attention.

and think the local media has been covering the story pretty well-- I'm seeing updates every day. The coverage of the other cases you'd mentioned in the national media was grotesquly excessive, studpidly overblown, tabloid-ized, each one made a tasteless circus.

The Newark killings were on page one of the NYT a few days ago... Sadly, every day brings news of more murders, suicides, shootings, etc., all over this country. I am thankful that the Newark tragedies are not being turned into a tasteless media sideshow on FUX and its ilk.

10. Lots of time could be filled
with speculation about Natalie Holloway and Jon Benet. This crime, as awful as it was, seems to be pretty much solved. Now it will be up to the jury to convict these creeps.
