"The president has found out that he can break the law and the rubber stamp"By HELEN THOMAS

HEARST NEWSPAPERS

WASHINGTON -- President Bush has the Democrats' number on Capitol Hill. All he has to do is play the fear card and invoke the war on terror and they will cave.

What's more, the president has found out that he can break the law and the rubber stamp

Democratic Congress will give him a pass every time.

The fear of being branded "soft on terrorism" was enough to make the Democrats capitulate once again to the Bush administration's demands. Or was it simply a looming vacation and beckoning campaign travel that led them to desert the nation's capital after giving the National Security Agency the power to expand its eavesdropping program without a warrant.

3. I want to ask you, what are they afraid of? Afraid of being blackmailed?
Then they need to get their corrupt asses out of politics and quit selling us down the river to save their precious hides. Are the afraid of being harmed ala the anthrax mailings. Then come right out and say it. And if they're afraid, get the fuck out of politics and quit selling us down the river to protect their precious hides.

Either do what's right for the country, or frigging get the hell out of the way.

4. They're afraid of not getting re-elected--
losing the prestige, the publicity, the benefits (both public and private) that come from being an elected official.

Plus, there's usually something in the past that they don't want to see revealed--whether or not it's really important, who knows.

They're just looking out for themselves--and their families, of course. :sarcasm:

7. Then they're totally worthless to us, aren't they? And they are very likely
to lose their cushy positions if they keep voting republican on every policy issue.

2. Okay all you dem apologists, are you gonna call Helen Thomas all
the things you call everyone else who are sick and tired of the non-actions of 'our representatives'? Like one vicious, classless, obscene, ignorant screed that was posted here (and deleted after a few responses)? Are you gonna say she should shut up and toe the party line?

6. Helen Thomas has always carried water for the repukes.
Isn't that the current label being bandied about for people that dare criticize the actions of congressional dems?

11. because attacking those who help * is obviously helping *!
you don't have the DLC LOGICANDREASON that allows them to support every neocon deal, spit on FDR's grave, and then say they're the core of the party and are being maligned and persecuted. It's the same with the Randroids: don't agree with the cult, you're an evil child.

5. I really don't understand just
why they are so afraid of being called 'soft on terrorism'. No matter how they voted they are going to be called that anyway, the fact that they signed onto voting for something unconstitutional makes no difference, facts have little to do with anything when the repukes campaign. They are going to say what they want no matter what the truth might be, they should have just done the right thing.
