....it should come as little surprise as we head into a new election season, and with the country bogged down in an unpopular war, that Ronstadt, 61, has more on her mind than the state of modern pop.
To add further fuel to her fire, Moore recently released his jeremiad against the American healthcare system, the documentary "Sicko."
"It's brilliant, it really is, and I want to say that Michael Moore is a true American hero and one of the few people who has the courage to tell the truth in this country about what is going on," Ronstadt says from San Francisco.
"We are amidst a real tragedy in Iraq, and people like Michael Moore and Keith Olbermann are the only people who are calling out the administration for what it is, a terrifying group of incompetent, malevolent people. They are leading this great country to ruin. It's a shame, it really is, and what's shameful is that the media is parroting their doctrine as if it was the truth." She pauses and catches her breath.
"You have to do your job, you can't be like the other people in the media who are afraid to report dissenting opinion or to try and speak the truth for fear of reprisal from the junta in charge at the White House. You know I just finished the Harry Potter book and, to me, Dick Cheney is the ultimate Death Eater. There are so many references in the book to what we are experiencing as we are really falling into a fascist state. The war in Iraq is a disaster, and there seems to be no answer, so those in power are holding on for dear life, because they recognize how unpopular they are, but they still are in control. We need to shake things up and turn it upside down."
Ronstadt says that she knows what she says may be unpopular with a lot of people, but she feels she has a moral obligation to let her opinions be known.
"You can't sit on the sidelines and be silent," she says. "There's too much at stake. It's going to be our children's world, and we need to protect it."...
