There is a difference between "hate" and "despise".

I don't hate conservatives for being conservatives any more than I hate mosquitoes for being mosquitoes.

Both creatures are simply doing what they were born to do, suck blood.

I do however despise conservatives, or at least the neocon variety.

Old-fashioned conservatives are a known quantity--you know what to expect, and you can deal with them.
