Entertainment For the Troops: Jesus with a Fist
Edited on Wed Aug-08-07 07:30 PM by whereismyparty
THE OSU TOUR

The Pentagon is sending the troops some real entertainment with a message. The so-called OSU Tour self-explains it's goals on it's website (http://jspinks.org/iraq.html )this way:
Upcoming Crusade in Iraq
On the most dangerous soil in our world, we’re taking a team of performers, professional athletes, and evangelists on a mission that will be both entertaining, as well as lend tremendous solitude to our men and women stationed in this war torn country of Iraq. We are most excited about this crusade and yes we are willing to go to the front lines with a very encouraging word straight from God, to our troops. We feel the forces of heaven have encouraged us to perform multiple crusades that will sweep through this war torn region.

Their line-up of entertainers is filled with people such as:
Jonathan Spinks - Former Professional Athlete AND Senior Evangelist

Stephen Baldwin - Hollywood Actor (Since he's really the loser brother to a couple of real Hollywood actors they've filled in his profile with this: The Baldwin family has made over 200 movies.)
BTW, Stephen, who doubles as a...get this: a cultural advisor to Bush  ... recently wrote a book in which he states:

"God has called me to go and make disciples of the youth of America. That is what I am going to try to do, and if you try to stop me I am going to break your face."

(Hmmm...Geez, Stephen, maybe it's just me, but I think you missed the point. You might want to go read the second half of that book one more time.)

And then there's this guy:

Bruce Collie - NFL Superstar with San Francisco 49ers AND Has 11 children with a tremendous message to Fathers?

(D'ya think the message might be on the advantages to birth control?)

Oh, and there's much more...worlds strongest guy, dallas cheerleader, a magician, and GOD

THERE'S MERCHANDISE TOO!!!

Like the amazingly violent PC video game with a Christian message for our bored troops. It's called Left Behind: Eternal Forces in which the Christians fight the supporters of the Anti-Christ. Yes, warfare leads to the Rapture.

And then they have these really cool shirts :sarcasm: . Notice the fine print at the bottom of the first one: "Because JC Lives in me" as he pummels some poor guy in the face.

Yep. Jesus Christ with a violent message.

If there were EVER an Anti-Christ, in my humble opinon, it would take this form...

God...I miss Bob Hope.

12. Jeebus gonna fuck you up

The dark (fundy) side of christianity is a circus of clowns, biting the heads off chickens, handling snakes, and riding around in clown cars tooting their horns. Look at me! I'm crazy! The proper response is to nod slowly, back away, and call the mental ward if they get out of hand.

19. k&r Oh My...
"Satan is a punk." People really do believe in the red dude with the pointy tail? Adults? In modern times? Believe this? I was raised an atheist. This stuns me.

Oh My fucking god. Ooops, I guess I'm going to be struck down now. I don't even know what to say. The idiocy AND AGGRESSION of religionists stuns me more every day, as well as the arrogance and brutality and sadism and...

Isn't Spinks the boxer? I had no idea Stephen Baldwin was different than his family. He must be an embarrassment. Cultural adviser? He plays in Grade B- SciFi flicks. I love my SciFi, including Grade B- but...oh wait...cultural adviser to Bush. OK, that makes sense now.

Someone really needs to neuter people who have 11 children.

Is this real? It's not from The Onion?

Is this really legal? Why doesn't that wacky church state separation thing make this illegal?

I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW MUCH RELIGION MAKES THIS A VIOLENT AND DANGEROUS PLANET. So, sending religious fanatics to inspire our soldiers to become religious fanatics so the world can have religious fanatics fighting religious fanatics... ...and the world is going to burn.

Damn, I did have to see this right before bedtime.

I did see a bumper sticker the other day that said "Bush is a punk-assed Chump". I liked that.

20. LOL. Madspirit, you are so terrific.
Thanks for making me laugh so hard right before bedtime.

Sleep tight my dear. Lord knows, you and I -- we're not goin' anywhere in the rapture.

Which reminds me, Another funny bumper sticker:

"Don't worry...They'll all disappear in the Rapture." I love that. It brings the Rapture into a whole new perspective -- for once we can hope they might be right.

23. What "entertainment" do Spinks, Baldwin & Collie plan?
Just what our troops are craving, seeing three adult men "entertain" them, in a violent, "J.C." kind of way.

I would have thought this was satire ten years ago, but nothing shocks me anymore.

28. From an article in "The Nation"
On the surface, OSU appears as a traditional entertainment troupe that brings cheer to American troops around the globe. Founded by champion kickboxer Jonathan Spinks, OSU performs comedy, acrobatic stunts and strongman displays. Its roster of entertainers includes a former WNBA star, the Flying Wallendas, a ventriloquist, and former boxing champ Evander Holyfield. "We make no bones about the fact that we are speaking directly to the soldiers of the greatest fighting force of in the world," OSU proclaims. "No ‘mamsie pamsie' stuff here!"

But behind OSU's anodyne promises of wholesome fun for military families, the organization promotes an apocalyptic brand of evangelical Christianity to active duty US soldiers serving in Muslim-dominated regions of the Middle East. Displayed prominently on the "What We Believe" section of OSU's website is a passage from the Book of Revelations (Revelation 19:20; 20:10-15) that has become the bedrock of the Christian right's End Times theology: "The devil and his angels, the beast and the false prophet, and whosoever is not found written in the Book of Life, shall be consigned to everlasting punishment in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."

http://www.thenation.com/blogs/notion?pid=220960

Sound like there will be alot of "combat" entertainment mixed with messages of God.
