Holy Crap - Rush and Hannity are right.
We are Defeatocrats.

I'm not talking about those that voted for the latest FISA bill. I'm talking about members of an on-line discussion group called Democratic Underground.

Good god people, it's not the end of the world. I log on to see whats up before I go to work, and by the looks of the posts here, we've living in some sort of 1984/Fascist nightmare.

Time to turn off the computer and take a walk. Talk to your neighbors. Read a book. Smoke something. Do something other than wallow in on-line self-pity.

3. You mean it's just fine'n'dandy that our glorious Democratic Congress...
...just responded to Bush's outrageous warrantless wiretapping by giving him permission to continue doing so in the future?

It sounds to me like you're the one who's smoking something.

7. That's not the point
The point is, so many are just giving up.

There's no denying this is a major setback in terms of freedoms lost and public perceptions of Congress, but that's no reason to stop fighting.

5. I never took most of the outrage as a sign of defeat
Defeat is a why bother? I won't vote.

Most posts I read called for a replacement of "traitor Dems" (ie Blue Dog -- these are the same Dems that have voted WITH the Party most of the time).
A call to action is not defeatest.

6. It is getting too much like a 1984/fascist nightmare
Edited on Tue Aug-07-07 08:38 AM by TechBear_Seattle
And your proposed solution is to play ostrich? Why should we not hold the fascist enablers accountable for their actions?

8. Yeah let our Dems give the worst president ever the right to spy on us!
They know what they are doing. And they are GOOD Democrats!! Go take a walk, read a book, our country is in good hands. You have nothing to worry about.

:sarcasm:

9. That's right! Did the repubs give up after Watergate? No, they organized!
They must have been very depressed after Nixon resigned. Look at them now.

12. NEVER let them see you sweat
No one likes the latest FISA. However, the more we sit around here complaining about the Dems who voted for it, the more power we give to the Republicans. They have to love
laughing at some of the posts here.

I don't suggest you do nothing. I do suggest that you find something positive to do. Write some letters. Visit your local Dem HQ - not to just complain, but also to volunteer to do some work. It's true, there are no federal races this year, but there are a lot of state and local races that need help.

Knock off the public whining. Do your complaining where it will make a difference.

13. I thought we weathered 2004
and would not be so easily "shocked" again by the actually expected. Yet I remember that quite a bit of DU moved on without mobilizing specifically against the lie and the fraud, blinders on, repeat defeat. The endless hunger for a defining moment, the decisive victory, the aha exposed scandal, the end of the Bush era.

The FISA was a parting humiliation. The real sleeper was going on vacation with the Gonzales, DOJ debacle
and crisis deferred to more inscrutable, undefined process. THE Constitutional crisis that would save the fate of 2008, meet the lawlessness and the threat to America headon. Yawn, on vacation. Thank God FISA came along to create a little drama or no one might notice that an incredible call to duty was sloughed off like a never resolved scheduled picnic during the rainy season. Not with the whimper of blocked investigations but the bang of pouring powers on a failed dictatorship.

The turkey was not in the last straw but in the shredded Constitution no one is in hurry to put back together- because they are very much afraid they can't. But it is a question of having still been robbed of Dem numbers by fraud and being less than well represented by failed collusionist accommodations and corporate takeover in our own party. That means we need a progressive candidate and many more progressive
Dems. The impeachment Congress will then roll in after Bush has escaped, and roll on over his cronies, his plans, the Bush future and unpunished past. We don't have an impeachment Congress and we have a treasonous MSM and criminal GOP roadblock. Our options are to press them all, all the time, and every November, every lobbying of OUR reps, open the floodgates of democracy to justice, change and a real future.

14. Oh sure. You want the white hot hatred of what Blue Dogs did to dissipate
so that the Blue Dogs can freely continue to meet in secret behind closed doors with GOPers and work on plans to keep defeating Democrats?

We do not have the majority in the house if 47 Blue Dogs keep making secret behind closed doors deals with GOPers.

Doing nothing and taking a walk does little to relay our disgust to our congresscritters. Picking up a phone and giving congresscritters a call is much better than your "talk to the neighbors" suggestion.
