I love being able to make short posts and assertions. It's like playing pundit except I get to make the talking points up.

I don't get involved much with posting, and don't read all posts. My time is kind of limited, and rather than a message board, or interactive experience, I see DU as a resource for my continuing education and information seeking (since I can't find the Truth much on TV any more.

TV is good for Sci-Fi and Documentaries. And Keith Olbermann. And Amy Goodman. Bill Moyers. Bill Maher. Jon Stewart. I'm sure there are several more I can't think of off the top of my head.

But for DU, I look to find news (and links and references) for topics I'm interested in, and DU is great for that.

DU is also great for seeing clips of news programs I missed, or clips I want to share with friends.

I also look at latest to see if there is a program on C-SPAN, or otherwise people on the east coast are talking about that I might want to see (set my recorder), and DU is great for that.

Interacting with other people? DU is too big. It kind of scares me. I've been criticized often (but more often not) on posts, and that is a turn off. It makes me a lurker.

I've come to find appreciating the hard work of some exceptional posters who really stand out. William Pitt, kpete, HissySpit (among only a few. I'm kind of bad with names)

I have not contributed for personal reasons, but I would if I could.

Anyway, my only issue (which is really a non-issue since I addressed it), is that I am really uncomfortable with the personality wars. So, I don't participate in them. I don't read threads that devolve to picky pettyness.

I guess I prefer the stream of shared ideas, and take all that I can from DU to form my own opinions (based on as much fact as I can find)

And I can find all that here, at DU, better than anywhere else. I hope it grows, as a community even larger. I think it is a Treasure. (can you imagine not being able to go to DU when something happens in the world where you want to dig for the Truth?)

105. I rarely post anything anymore, but I'm still here.

I'm a bit of a slow poster anyway; it took me from late '03 until last year to crack the 1000+ mark. It just seems like there are others with more to add than I have, and if I can't contribute something substantial, whether for lack of time or lack of original insight, I just let it lie.

Even so, I read DU for the headlines, to get the initial reaction of my fellow DUers to significant events, and to guage what the community thinks of various candidates, political tactics, potential outcomes, solutions to pressing problems, and on and on.

I hate that there seems to be an exodus of some of our more high-profile compatriots, and I know it constitutes a real loss for us. I'm happy that some of them are opting to stay, and in an overt and pointed manner, too. I'm not leaving, although I'm sure if I did, I wouldn't be missed, as my voice is relatively small here.

To those who say DU is no longer suitable because it's changed, wistfully longing for the old days when we were in the wilderness, I have to point out that it is the nature of everything to change, and that DU's remaining stubbornly static is tantamount to its becoming irrelevant, the equivalent of dying in the world of the 'net. Perhaps those people have changed as well, and it's simply time to move on. So be it, best of luck, no hard feelings, maybe we'll meet again elsewhere, or perhaps back again here one day.

In any case, DU will always be someone's home. I still have it set up as my homepage when I start up my browser. I'm sure a lot of others here do as well. Things in the US are changing, DU is certainly responsible in part for much of that change, our work here has brought in many new people, and thus we have changed as well.

I have been loving DU for almost a year, but never had the courage to register and post until this thread. I want to make my first post a loud chime-in that I do love DU. I love the news and thought-provoking commentary. DU was the place I turned to every day when the tainted pet food hit the markets. But I have to admit I fell totally in love when I blundered accidentally somehow into the amazing kudzu trail. You have to love a site where you can get serious news and kudzu.

There are people who's passion is the environment, or choice, of gay rights or whatever. Some of us are religious, some are atheists. We rarely can agree on anything or any candidate. I think it proves that we believe in the theory of democracy. As much as we try to persuade one another, we respect each other (mostly). Republicans on the other hand are made up mostly of rich white christian guys who hate anyone who is not rich and white and christian.

Just didn't register, I don't type well but since I have started posting here it has gotten better.

Five and a half years, many hours a day, reading and thinking of the great writings of many here have given me hope, as well as taken it back.

This is my first post in three or four days, I need a break.

DU is great. It is the best place for people of many different stances to bring them forward and share them.

I need to get away from the posting for a while though, it is bogging me down in thinking about what I should do in other parts of my life. At this point, I think preparing for the worst of all possibilities is more important to my family than trying to convince others to be more prepared if they have chosen not to.

The time is short. A major shift in life is coming for all of us in the next four years. Global warming from whatever source, water shortages, job losses, infrastructure decline, energy crisis, a depression to make the 1920s look like a bounced check fee, a collapse of everything we now base or standards upon which to make decisions.

I no longer think we can change the course of this ship, not from an internet connection. If I am wrong, great.

But as i still love DU I will be keeping an ear to the ground here, and maybe check in from time to time. Love you all, Peace.
