"Doctor" Laura receives award from Defense Department; wonder if her son was there?

Syndicated Talk host Dr. Laura Schlessinger was presented this week with the Office Of The Secretary Of Defense Exceptional Public Service Award by Deputy Secretary of Defense, Gordon England, in recognition of her work with Operation Family Fund and the US Defense Department's "America Supports You" program. Dr. Laura is the 8th recipient to receive this esteemed award, in connection with the "America Supports You" program.

Schlessinger has helped raise over $530,000 for Operation Family Fund, a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to families of civilian and military personnel severely injured or killed as a part of the Global War on Terrorism. (www.operationfamilyfund.org)

The Office of the Secretary of Defense Exceptional Public Service Award was established to recognize non-career Federal employees, private citizens, and foreign nationals for their support of the Armed Forces of the United States.

I can't stand her shrill, judgmental opinions, but at least she's doing something for the troops and their families and not just being an armchair patriot. I wonder how many of the RW commentators out there do anything other than screech about the vile liberals.

Deryk Schlessinger, the son of talk show host Dr. Laura created an unbelievably graphic and offensive MySpace page including scenes of rape, torture and child molestation. Deryk is serving as a Specialist with the 82nd Airborne Division in Afghanistan with the US Army. There is also a picture of a blindfolded prisoner with the caption "My Sweet Little Habib." What's more, one blog entry on the site read, in part, "I LOVE MY JOB, it takes everything reckless and deviant and heathenistic and just overall bad about me and hyper focuses these traits into my job of running around this horrid place doing nasty things to people that deserve it ... and some that don't."
