BRAINTREE - The recall of nearly 1 million toys manufactured with lead-based paint has some parents worrying and others simply resigned to hoping for the best.

For one mom, playtime has become one scare after another. ‘‘To find out a paint is lead-based shouldn’t ever be something they should be finding out about,’’ said Barbara St. Louis, 34, resting a moment at a bench at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree. ‘‘It does make you think a lot more when you’re buying toys now.’’

First, the Brockton woman was shocked to hear lead paint was recently found in wooden toys in the likeness of Thomas and Friends - her 6-year-old son’s favorite characters.

And with a two-month-old baby surrounded by Fisher-Price toys, Thursday’s recall of nearly 1 million toys made with lead-based paint has shaken her trust in the company.

‘‘I trust that they make the right decisions when choosing things to go into the toys,’’ she said. ‘‘Sometimes people make decisions that are cost-driven.’’
