Limbaugh: Bear's Grossman dumped on because he's white.

On the February 5 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh, responding to media coverage of Chicago Bears quarterback Rex Grossman, stated "they're dumping on this guy -- Rex Grossman -- for one reason, folks, and that's because he is a white quarterback." Limbaugh later insisted in conversation with a caller that, "they just want this guy not to do well 'cause he's a white quarterback," and that Grossman was "targeted for destruction." The Bears lost to the Indianapolis Colts 29-17 in Super Bowl XLI.

Limbaugh was forced to resign from his position as a football analyst for ESPN in 2003 after he claimed that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was overrated because "he media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well." The following season, McNabb led his team to the Super Bowl.

I watched the Super Bowl. Even a child could see that the reason the Bears did not win that game was that Grossman could not get a first down. He just couldn't. If you look at the stats, it's pitiful. Hester returned teh KICKOFF for a TD and they STILL lost because Grossman couldn't get it together. Very painful.

But, hey, if concocting bogus racist explanations for perfectly obvious phenomena helps ease Rush's oxycontin withdrawal, why begrudge. I think the only people listening to him these days are DUers anyway.

I grew up in Chicago and spent several years, until just recently, in Philadelphia. Although a Bears fan at heart, while in Philly I started following the Eagles a bit and McNabb's performance at the SuperBowl a couple years back was disheartening, especially towards the end of the game there. Having said that, McNabb's performance was nowhere near the performance we saw from Grossman this past Sunday. Every time Grossman touched the ball, my heart lept - not in excitement, but in fear of what boneheaded thing he was going to do with it next. It's a miracle the Bears made it as far as they did with a guy like that at the helm. Rush Limpdick needs to STFU about the white/black quarterback thing already. What's sad is that the reason he probably keeps going on about it (aside from the fact that he's a racist f*ck) is because his listeners love it.

He was "dumped on" because he played a lousy game. He also didn't have much support from his teammates of all colors. He'd throw a short pass and his receivers would gain a yard or two. Manning would throw a short pass and his receivers would gain 8+ yards most of the time. The Bears defense couldn't get the Colts off the field most of the night, either. The Colts played better defense, blocked the opposition more skillfully, and caught/ran/threw passes better than the Bears on that night. Race had no factor in anything.

Grossman isn't getting dumped on because he's white, he's getting dumped on because he's a lousy quarterback. He threw two interceptions, one for a touchdown, in the fourth quarter of the game. During the regular season he threw for twenty interceptions, a number three less than the number of touchdowns he threw. He came out of the gate strong this year, and wasn't injured. But somewhere in the middle of the season something got into his head and he started making mistakes. For the rest of the season I think that he was plagued by headgames, and it severely effected his ability to perform.

Grossman's got skills, don't get me wrong. He's got an arm, he can move in and out of the pocket, and can even scramble when need be. But until he gets his head screwed on straight, he is a liability in the backfield and shouldn't play. My bet is that he'll start next season, but will be on a short leash and if he starts fucking up again, he'll be benched for Griese. And frankly, after he's benched he should probably retire, because his head games will then never go away.

Rush is just an ignorant bloviating junkie who knows little about sports and even less about the rest of the world in general. Gee Rush, why aren't we dumping on Manning also since he's white? Oh, yeah, because the man has talent, something that Grossman is seriously lacking.
