And the thing is, white conservatives back in their districts will vote against them anyway.

6. They don't belong in the Democratic Party...
Dems need to work on taking away every single seat from Republicans in blue states. We cab forget about these "Dems" from red states. When their balls are up against the wall, they are totally useless. Why have them to begin with?

Our illustrious leaders must have thought their seats were vulnerable. D'oh.

3. Appreciate the link
glad to see my Congressman (Kind, WI) is not one of the Dems voting for this. Neither were my two Senators, thank God. But then, Feingold has been on this issue ever since he voted as the sole NO to the Patriot Act (I have a hard time even typing the name of that piece of legislation... I don't even want to call it legislation... more like treasonous crap we are all supposed to believe is going to keep us safe... I can't say safe... ok, I'll shut up now, the whole thing has got my stomach and brain, what there is of it, in knots.

10. None of mine voted for it either but that's not the point: they were ALL
enablers. They could have stopped it -- by insisting on supermajority, like the GOP did yesterday with their bill, or by letting it die. They betrayed us COLLECTIVELY, regardless of how they voted on it individually. Our party just caved in and behaved in the most cowardly fashion and therefore betrayed everyone who worked so hard to elect them.

18. Her floor speech was very ambiguous. I was unsure of how she would vote.
I thought it sounded like a "nay" (as did you, IIRC).

22. Emanuel in the NYT:
Edited on Sat Aug-04-07 10:30 PM by Bumblebee
Senior House Democratic leaders said they were resigned to the administration bill, which would be in force for six months. But they said they would not wait that long before trying to come up with a more acceptable, permanent change in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

“There is no way we are ever going to wait six months,” said Representative Rahm Emanuel of Illinois, chairman of the House Democratic Caucus.

SO HOW ABOUT ON MONDAY AND CALL THE SENATE BACK TOO? Maybe that should be our demand -- or else not a red cent or a even a quick minute spent on the campaigns!
