2 Wounded in Vegas Casino Shooting
2 Wounded in Vegas Casino Shooting
Published: 8/4/07, 7:45 PM EDT

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Gunfire erupted at the Caesars Palace hotel-casino early Saturday when a man who had been knocked down in a fistfight retrieved a weapon and shot two people, police reported.

No one was immediately arrested, though investigators were interviewing five people Saturday, said Officer Ramon Denby of the Las Vegas Metro Police Department.

The wounded men, whose names were not immediately released, were taken to a hospital for wounds that Denby said did not appear to be life-threatening.

The gunshots rang out soon after a fight involving several people began about 4 a.m. near an elevator leading to a parking garage at Caesars Palace.

11. licensed or unlicensed -- walking into
a crowded arena carrying a loaded wepon -- and being prepared to use it -- qualifies one as a nut job.

excluding of course officers of the law -- whom we sanction as society to protect and defend,.

12. 48 out of the 50 states also sanction carry by non-LEO's...

licensed or unlicensed -- walking into a crowded arena carrying a loaded wepon -- and being prepared to use it -- qualifies one as a nut job.

To obtain authorization to carry from the state of NC, I had to pass a mental health records check, a thorough Federal and state background check, had my prints run by the FBI, took a state-mandated class on self-defense law, passed a written test on self-defense law, demonstrated proficiency with a handgun (live fire), spent a lot of time running paperwork to and from the sheriff's office, and spent a lot of money in fees. (The officer who fingerprinted me said he thought licensure should be free to qualified applicants, but the state likes the money, I suppose.)

No, I am a genuine, state-certified, bona fide, NON-nutjob. Statistically, I'm less likely to commit a violent felony than a police officer is.

And of course, it is only people like me who would even think about obeying the casino's "no weapons" policy. The nutjob in the OP obviously didn't feel it was binding on himself.

14. perfectly reasonable people shoot each other up all the time.
for all kinds of reasons -- by accident or a bad day at work.

frankly i find legal gun carriers to have an over elevated sense of self -- that they wouldn't otherwise have if they didn't have that gun.

endless braggadocio about how they're this or that -- proficient with this or that -- jesus -- why do so many people get killed in households where people legally have them?

i'm glad you would obey the casinos rule -- but that wasn't my point -- my point was that people have put forward the idea that some how a dead victim was responsible for their being dead because they didn't have a fuckin gun.

it's outrageous -- and just a TAD unstable to suggest such a thing.

16. Thoughts...
perfectly reasonable people shoot each other up all the time for all kinds of reasons -- by accident or a bad day at work.

And CHL holders are even less likely to be among that number, on a per-capita basis, than police officers are. Nationwide, I bet you'd have a hard time coming up with ten cases in the last 20 years of "CHL holder snaps and murders someone."

frankly i find legal gun carriers to have an over elevated sense of self -- that they wouldn't otherwise have if they didn't have that gun.

endless braggadocio about how they're this or that -- proficient with this or that -- jesus -- why do so many people get killed in households where people legally have them?

How many CHL holders do you know personally? I know a few. Most aren't.

Some LEO's are that way also. Doesn't mean that all officers are that way (most aren't).

i'm glad you would obey the casinos rule -- but that wasn't my point -- my point was that people have put forward the idea that some how a dead victim was responsible for their being dead because they didn't have a fuckin gun.

I'm with you on that. The responsibility is squarely on the shoulders of the twit who shot those people, not on his victims.

15. Read post 5
It is legal to carry guns in NV. If you enter a casino you are supposed to check it with security. I know this how? Once upon a time I worked security at Cesar's. Of course the bad guys dont check their weapons.

6. We're in Vegas Now
My husband and I are in Vegas now, at Defcon. Unfortunately, we're not staying at Caesars - the Riviera sucks, but it is the con hotel. Even so, my husband was awakened to sirens and bullhorns at 4 AM last night. Whee. Just another Friday night in Vegas, baby.
