God & His Son expected to loom large in 08 elections.
http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-apcampreligion30jul30,1,5981400.story?coll=la-politics-campaign&ctrack=1&cset=true

Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton emphasizes her Methodist upbringing and says her faith helped her repair her marriage.

Chief rival Sen. Barack Obama frequently uses the language of religion and proclaims a "personal relationship" with Jesus Christ. The Illinois Democrat -- whose middle name is "Hussein" -- scoffs at suggestions of Muslim leanings because he spent part of his childhood in Indonesia. He is a member of the United Church of Christ.
---------

Republican Sen. John McCain, an Episcopalian, says, "I do believe that we are unique and that God loves us." Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, an ordained Baptist minister, emphasizes his belief that "God created the heavens and the earth. To me, it's pretty simple."
---------------

An earlier poll by the Pew Research Center said 30 percent of respondents said they would be less likely to vote for a candidate that was Mormon. The negative sentiment rose to 46 percent for Muslim candidates and to 63 percent for a candidate who "doesn't believe in God."

12. "God cannot be for and against the same thing at the same time." A. Lincoln
As much as politicians would like a deity that would be on their side, God, (if there is one), seems to be indifferent to they're fervid prayers.

38. Well I agree with you except that
that is a huge selling point for the republicans. The fundamentalists will go along with anything as long as you promise them anti-gay, anti-abortion. However if a Dem can bring over some of the Christian voters, that helps Democratic issues overall.

18. And The Fundies Are Supporting???
The corporate media just can't let go of a "Conventional Wisdom"...especially one that really didn't exist in the first place. We're now learning details about the voter games Rove and his goons did and wrapped it up as a strong showing from the "xtian right"...which has created this meme that ALL candidates must demostrate their faith openly or face some political ostracism. It's a sham the media has bought to excess...and here's another example.

There's no greater political rift right now than with religion and the Repugnican party. Romney's too much of a Mormon, Rudy's too much a Catholic...while you have Planet Brownback and Huckabee Hound beying his beliefs that the universe showed up in 7 days. The contradictions are only amplified by the inclusiveness and surface level racism, sexism and homophobia...the elements of fear and hate...that are one of the few bonds that hold that corrupt party together.

20. Whatever...sails their
boat. I have a different perspective on things cause I don't do dogma..but where would a candidate be without some kind of religion propping them up?

All the candidates I've liked have it too..but they don't use it to justify killing people and not giving access to health benefits for children.

25. So the media wants to tell us
To this point, the Iraq war, health care and corruption of the bu$h regime have been the topics people are talking about.
But the right wing, hence the bu$h regime wants us to think that religion is a political topic to be discussed at election time.

NOT IF WE DON'T LET THEM!

NOT IF WE DON'T LET THEM

How do we stop them?

It's the people on TV who decide what the issues are, and they take their orders from Karl Rove.

36. For the most part the Democratic candidates have done a fair job
After each debate the topics they discuss are headlines and they has been little mention of religion each and every time.
It is an uphill battle and the tools we have are at hand. Email, blogs and forums. We just keep pounding them with a different message than what they want to tell us we want.
Eventually, the people will speak through these robots called anchors and commentators.

35. Dangerous Game the Dems Are Playing
You think the Moral Majority gives a rip about going to church?

Lip service.

Did you know that Bill Clinton was kicked out of his church during the impeachment fiasco?

Religious zealots hate the Dems. We are pro-choice and support gay rights.

Belonging to this congregation or that one will not lead to cross-over votes.
