Gas Station Cashier Fired After Robbery
Gas Station Cashier Fired After Robbery
Published: 7/27/07, 4:26 PM EDT

LODI, Calif. (AP) - A gas station cashier who was held up on the job and helped track down the robber has been fired.

The company that owns the station said Cynthia Lopez lost her job because her cash drawer was $16 over its $50 limit.

"We do have policies on cash limits in registers to protect our employees' safety," Tesoro Corp. spokeswoman Sarah Simpson said. "We have a zero-tolerance policy."

Lopez, 31, was working behind the counter July 11 when a masked man put a gun on the counter and demanded the contents of the cash register.

2. Sixteen dollars over? What is she supposed to do, count her cash drawer in front
of the customers every five minutes?????

Good grief! One sale could put one over the $50.00 limit.

I remember in the days I used to be a cashier. We were given $50.00 as a starting point for change. We usually did cash pulls after we took in $150 to $200.

I think, were I the victim, I'd turn around and sue the company for unsafe working conditions.

Another case of money/property of the employer is more important the the employee's life.

3. That's an outrage
Instead of a thank you note, or a raise or a promotion for tracking the criminal down, some little peckerhead fires her.

6. "We have a zero-tolerance policy."
Don't you just love living and 'pursuing happiness' under the corporatist's concepts of what is good?

If it's so easy to fire a cashier, then why isn't firing AGAG just as easy? Or is zero-tolerance only for little people?

9. Next time, tell the robber where other Tesoro stations are located.
Tesoro: not much of a treasure.
