GILBERT, Ariz. -- A former volunteer youth minister at a church here has been arrested on suspicion of molesting a 14-year-old mentally disabled girl at his home, authorities said.

James Ward Chapman III, 39, was arrested July 14 on suspicion of one count of molestation of a child and one count of child abuse, both felonies.

Court records show Chapman admitted he inappropriately touched the girl, who was a family friend, while the two were watching television in December 2006. The victim was not a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gilbert, officials said.

The Rev. Dan Morley, senior pastor at the church where Chapman volunteered and coached teen volleyball, said Chapman was removed from his volunteer position about six months ago.
