No, not the former governor of California.

Wilson was a moderate liberal- a well-reasoned and very civil man. I didn't always agree with him (he wasn't THAT well-reasoned- sometimes it took him awhile to catch on to things), but he was a very good person, and a great talkshow host.

He also anchored the news for SF's ABC affiliate. Read his bio- he was well-accomplished.

I really liked Pete. It's sad that he left so early.

1. Yeah sounds like a nice guy
Wilson raised controversy in San Francisco with comments he made on KGO radio on October 10, 2006 criticizing city Supervisor Bevan Dufty, who is gay, for his "non-romantic, co-parenting" relationship with a lesbian friend, sparking calls for Wilson's resignation from four members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. He later issued an apology for the harshness of his criticism, while standing by his opinion on such nontraditional relationships.

2. Well, like I said, he wasn't always on target.

But he was a far cry from Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage, that's for sure.

And he absolutely WAS an outstanding talkshow host. Don't know if you ever listened to him, but he was always fair and open-minded.

3. Yep, a well known anchor in San Francisco
Edited on Sun Jul-22-07 11:14 PM by Gormy Cuss
Not just on ABC, but on KRON (then NBC) and the CBS affiliate. Came across as an affable guy with a lot of knowledge, even if on his talk show he went around the bend a few times in a big way.

on edit: there was some confusion in the media over WHICH Pete Wilson of CA died..apparently the ex-Gov.'s rep was getting calls.

5. Yes, all the other hosts e been quite upset about it. They are to have
some kind of tribute to him tomorrow, noon to 4 I think. I heard he told his listeners how nervous he was about this hip replacement surgery while he was on air on Thursday. I've never listened to him, but it's sad that he's gone.

7. It is sad. I listened to his show fairly often...
and even called a few times. He was willing to look at all sides of an argument and was a gentleman in his discourse.

I'm sorry he is gone and wish the best for his family in the days ahead...

8. That's two KGO host's from the left dead within a year?
It might be sure that Mike Webb was the victim of homicide, but I have to wonder when someone only 62 died from hip replacement surgery. My 86 y/o Dad is having cataract surgery next month. I'm glad he doesn't have a prominent political viewpoint. I'm more than happy to take up that fight. Come and find me assholes!

9. Take off the tinfoit hat - any surgery can kill you - it happens
Edited on Mon Jul-23-07 02:12 AM by RamboLiberal
Hip replacement is not considered a particularly risky surgery, and deaths during or after the procedure -- such as that of Bay Area newsman Pete Wilson on Friday -- are relatively rare, health professionals said.

But as with any surgery, there is a danger, particularly if the patient has pre-existing heart problems or another medical condition, experts said.

"It's generally a very safe procedure, but it's made a little more tricky by the patient's underlying medical conditions," said Dr. Richard Kelly, an anesthesiologist at UCSF Medical Center who has participated in multiple hip-replacement surgeries. "There's also the unexpected events that can happen."

Risks during the procedure include a blood clot forming in the leg and traveling to the lungs or heart, triggering a heart attack. Fat also can leak from the thigh bone during the operation, clot and travel to the lungs, which can be life threatening, medical professionals said.

Bill King, a renowned Bay Area sports announcer who covered the Warriors, Raiders and A's during a career that spanned four decades, died in October 2005 from a pulmonary embolism -- a blocked artery -- after he underwent surgery to repair his artificial hip and developed a blood clot.

The mortality rate after total hip replacement is approximately 0.25 percent, according to a report by Lancashire Teaching Hospitals in Great Britain.

10. That's a real shame...
he was a mainstay of broadcasting in the Bay Area. Didn't always agree with him, but he was always professional and well-prepared.
