It was a perfectly gorgeous day here in Maryland. We were out doing some errands, windows down, enjoying the air.

As we pulled up to a light, there's a small, ratty looking SUV in front of us with a peppering of right wing bumper stickers. 'W' ..... 'Bush/Cheney 04' ..... 'Boycott France' (talk about relics!) ..... and of the course, the de rigeur 'Support the Troops'. The driver's a kid. Maybe 25 ..... little older, maybe. The kind wanna yell at to go enlist. but it was a mellow Sunday, so we used a different tactic. As we notice the entire tableau before us I start a song we made up a while back. To the tune of Yankee Doodle Dandy, our ditty is 'I'm a jingositic asshole'

So we break out loudly into the chorus as the light turns green and the kid turns right. We go cruisin' by and he gives us this look as if "whatchew lookin' at?"

My body seems too old to pull this crap much longer, but inside, I'm 25.

And I ain't growin' up.

4. Another tactic...

When I was in Houston (armpit of Texas), I had a friend who'd come up with a really clever gambit.

Whenever we were in line somewhere (movie theater, Chipotle, whatvever) he'd start up a really loud conversation along the lines of, "I can't believe that dick George Bush. He totally lied about the WMD and now his moron supporters are buying into this crap about 'fight them over there instead of fighting them here.'"

Frequently, there would be a wingnut in line with us who would turn and start to disagree. Then my friend would cut him off with, "Hey! We're having a private conversation!" That worked every time. It made Houston bearable.

There's this truck near where i live that has a bumper sticker that with a peace sign that says "footprint of an american chicken". If I ever see its driver I'll be sure to sing him or her the jingo jingle.
