6. Thanks, I love the Chrysler Building
Edited on Wed Jul-18-07 05:24 PM by slackmaster
:nuke:

The Chrysler Building would be VERY hard to bring down. It has about triple the steel of a modern building of comparable size.

17. And..
from where I am (Houston and 2nd Ave) the smoke/steam
looks several blocks to the left (west) of the Chrysler Bldg.
By all reports, closer to Grand Central.

There seems to be a big transformer fire/explosion here
every couple of years.. especially during hot weather.
Nasty scary stuff.

20. we had one of these in downtown SF
Edited on Wed Jul-18-07 05:37 PM by musette_sf
a few years ago. i worked across the street.

as a New Yorker, i am not sure whether i am proud or ashamed to admit that as soon as i heard the explosion, i grabbed my stuff and ran to BART. i wasn't waiting around for the next shoe to drop, for BART to be shut down, etc etc etc.

turned out to be mostly property damage and only several people were hurt. thank the Goddess. NYC in that area is much more dense than where the explosion occurred in SF, so i do hope that as few ppl got hurt as possible.

update from MSNBC: 2 ppl hurt and some property damage. sounds about identical to the SF injured toll.

27. I don't have any problem understanding what I wrote
It's like the Brits to prematurely report a collapsed building when there is no collapsed building.

15. When I lived in New York, I always wondered about the masses.....
of aging power lines and subway tunnels and phone lines and sewers that are under the crowded streets of Manhattan.....

I'm actually surprised this kind of thing doesn't happen more often.
